Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Diletta Bello and the Bello+?

Both are heat exchanger E61 machines with a 1.8L stainless steel boiler, handmade in Milan. The Bello is fully manual. The Bello+ adds a PID controller for steam boiler temperature, a built-in shot timer, programmable pre-infusion of up to 10 seconds, and a low-power eco mode.

Can I brew and steam at the same time on the Diletta Bello?

Yes. The Bello's heat exchanger flash-heats fresh brew water through the steam boiler, so you can pull a shot and steam milk simultaneously — great for lattes and cappuccinos.

Is the Diletta Bello only sold at Seattle Coffee Gear?

Yes. The Diletta Bello is a Seattle Coffee Gear exclusive. It's available in polished stainless steel or black or white powder coat.

How long does the Diletta Bello take to warm up?

Plan on about 13.5 minutes for the E61 group to fully heat. A short flush through the group before your first shot helps stabilize brew temperature.

What comes in the box with the Diletta Bello?

The Bello includes a double-spout portafilter, a bottomless portafilter, single, double and triple baskets, a backflush basket, a tamper and a group brush.

What water should I use in the Diletta Bello?

Use filtered water with some minerals — not pure distilled water, which can taste flat and confuse water-level sensors, and not hard tap water, which builds scale. Scale damage from unfiltered hard water isn't covered by warranty.

Customers praised this espresso machine for "pulling amazing shots," fast steaming (8-10 seconds), and solid construction. Many noted it "exceeded expectations" and produces cafe-quality espresso. However, several reported concerns: machine components get "extremely hot" causing burns, reliability issues after 15 months including pressure problems and water leaks, and some found baskets need upgrading.

  • Exceeded all expectations! Extraordinary old-world craftsmanship, plus gorgeous modern style.
  • I am pulling amazing shots each and every time I use the machine.
  • The machine is built like a tank! Very impressed with the construction and finish.

Amazing for the beginner who is on their journey to the next level

I originally purchased the Diletta Mio but swapped as I wanted to have more control. This machine is amazing. Kudos to Seattle Coffee to not only assisting me with the return/purchase process, but also providing me with some advice in picking the right machine for my needs. My only downside is the baskets are a bit lack luster. I'm seeing a good amount of spurting. Going to be upgrading those soon as well. If you do end up getting this, just be aware that you may want to also spring for an upgraded set of baskets and possibly a new portafilter.

A wonderful choice

After taking the Espresso 101 training from Sean at the Kirkland store I came up with a list of requirements for new machine. My Rancilio Silva had died, a replacement/upgrade was needed. My list included a PID, cool touch steam wand, tall E61 group head, and features that when ready would advance my skills such as pre-infusion. Sean instantly suggested the Dilleta+ and for the next hour was walked through all other machines that met most of my requirement - but only the Dilleta+ met them all at my price point. The only thing I wanted that was not included were wood accents and I was able to find those on Etsy. Now every morning- and often more times than that - I think about how this purchase was just right for me. Easy to use, solid construction, delivered up front what I expected, and in just a few weeks has become a staple of my daily routine. The Dilleta+ has all the indications of sitting on my coffee bar for years to come with me excited to see where it takes me in my coffee journey.

Amazing!

Recently received this machine as a graduation present, and cannot say enough good things! I am pulling amazing shots each and every time I use the machine. I have the Diletta Bello that came with the Eureka Mignon grinder. The grinder is amazing as well and I'm able to dial shots in usually within one or two pulls and then stays consistent throughout an entire bag of beans. My espresso game is top notch now and I'm making cortados that compete with local coffee shops, that I find truly amazing. BUY this machine.

Great machine, so long you can live with its flaws.

I?ve purchased this about a month ago, and so far it?s pretty impressive. There are couple of minor oversights that are the reason I gave it 4 stars. 1) build quality although really good, the attention to detail is not. My steam and water spout knobs came from the factory slightly loose. The little nuts that hold those, weren?t properly secured in place or tightened all the way. 2) the machine is so narrow, that the water spout is often in the way of the actual shot lever, which is a bit annoying if you?re making multiple coffees and the spout gets quite hot and you accidentally touch it. You can move it slightly out of the way, but the actual connection where the spout is attached is literally no more than half an inch off from the lever for the shot. So it?s a design flaw I think. If it were just an extra inch away, it would make a huge difference. 3) the shower screen on the group head is bleh. It allows for a lot of bubbles to form while pouring the shot, so IMS precision shower screen is highly recommended as the first upgrade. 4) last one is very minor, but I think if they increase the size width wise even by just an inch or two, it wouldn?t make a big enough difference in the ease of placement, but it would drastically improve overall usability of the machine, plus increase the size of the drip tray (pretty small, 5-6 coffees and it?s full), and the water tank (also quite small to be honest)But with all this in mind, highly recommend this machine. The black powder coating is impeccable and looks the business, way better than all the chrome models out there. It?s a gorgeous piece, and I really want to see a higher end version of this with a flow control and PID out of the factory with slightly increased size as I said. You won?t regret purchasing this. I sure don?t.

Looks fab and makes amazing espresso

I have a black one and it's absolutely gorgeous and very well made. Paired with a good grinder, fresh beans and proper technique it makes espresso shots as good as any 3rd wave coffee shop. It's a huge step up from our previous thermocoil espresso machine. Everything works well except I have one complaint that the machine is messy. After you pull the shot and lower the lever the group head shoots the excess water down into the drip tray. But not all water goes straight into it, some of it hits the tray and shoots in every direction... eventually making its way behind the tray and onto the surface the machine sits on. Every time I pour the drip tray water out I have to also wipe water puddles behind it as well as underneath the machine.

Great machine

Excellent machine! I'd change my rancilio silvia for this unit and what a difference on the coffee using the same coffee grinder (baratza sette 270). Way more consistent coffee compared to the other coffee maker. Did not change the factory working pressure and it gives great notes development on the different coffees that I've tried.

Great machine but machine can get really hot.

We love this machine and it works very well but am giving it 4 stars because the mechanisms (behind the black handle, the wands, the toggle switch, really everything) get extremely hot and we have burned our fingers multiple times with the slightest touch. Even just turning the on/off toggle it can be very hot. I wish I would have known and I might have chosen another model due to this liability with staff. But it does steam milk super fast (8-10seconds), looks beautiful, and I like the removable water pan.

Reliability Concerns

I've been loving my original Bello machine for 15 months now. Unfortunately, I've been having problems the last month with there not being enough pressure to brew espresso. It's intermittent, so sometimes I pull the lever and everything works, other times it won't work. This has gotten worse over the last two weeks. Now a new problem has appeared. When I fill the water reservoir, the entire tank of water will be empty the next morning! I filled it Monday morning and pulled one shot, and this morning there was no water in the reservoir. And every time this has happened there has no evidence or indication of leaking water inside the machine, on the counter or on the floor. The machine is typically on for about 6 to 8 hours every day and we only pull 1 to 3 shots a day. Fortunately, it is still under warranty so I am getting ready to ship it back to SCG to see if they can fix it. I must say though that this is an incredible annoyance and very disappointing after only 15 months. My last 2 espresso machines worked flawlessly for more than 5 years each before I upgraded to the Bello. Now I have very real concern's about the machine's reliability.

great machine if it does not leak

pros: pulls great shots, steam pressure is very good, warm up quickly. cost: it leaks, sharp edges.

Great unit: in my opinion, better than the Rocket Appartamento

This a great machine. For years I wanted a Rocket Appartamento. I am glad I bought this instead of the Rocket. The addition of the second gauge is a win/win over the Appartamento, and I think that the portafilters are better as well. I bought a Rocket Portafilter assembly from SCG to get a single spout portafilter. On the Rocket portafilter, the bottom edge of the portafilter basket sits flush against the top of the portafilter with no space between to get a fingernail or tool in to get the basket out. In fact I had to unscrew the spout and use a dowel to pound the basket out. Even then it was difficult. On the Bello, you can get a fingernail or tool between the basket and portafilter. It is really easy to work with the baskets and portafilter on the Bello. I do suggest getting a Bello+. There is a temperature control fow the brew head, which is a bit beyond my skill right now. The big feature here on the Bello+ is the integrated shot timer. This makes what could be a two handed or busy one handed operation into an easy one handed operation. If you don't have this, you need some kind of stopwatch or scale with a timer that you have to trip as you start your shot. The only downside, and admittedly a small one is the rubber "half grommet" for a "handle" on the water tank cover. It just slips in a cutout on the lid. If you are not careful when lifting the lid, you can pull it off. Updates should include some kind of permanently fastened plastic grommet half. This issue SHOULD NOT sway you from buying. It is only meant for the SCG staff for product improvement of an otherwise perfect product.

Wonderful cup

This machine is outstanding for me. My partner complained about the price tag until they tasted the coffee. I made their favorite cappuccino. It was delicious with this machine. The milk was enhanced by the steam and the coffee's flavor was perfect. I did not have better coffee in Italy, except for a little coffee bar tucked away in Sicily - but maybe my memory was wrong. There is no warning for low water, I fill the tank up once a day with filtered water but there's enough volume stored for multiple cups. I had been a barista as a teenager and underwent training from experienced Italian baristas. Completely new home baristas may feel intimidated, but this machine was very easy to use.

My first and last purchase with SCG

I purchased the Diletta Bello and a 3-Year extended warranty. The Diletta makes excellent coffee and is easy to use. John, the Sales Dept. Manager was wonderful and easy to communicate with. However, SCG failed to communicate effectively with Extend, the warranty company and it created a lot of stress and confusion. I had to fix the problem myself with the help of Sandra at Extend who moved heaven and earth to straighten things out. I made several calls and sent emails to SCG who were of no help whatsoever and it was their error! Edgar in the Warranty Dept. was rude; very abrupt and terse with me. Edgar could take lessons from Chewy Customer Service. I had just spent $1800 with SCG and they couldn't have cared less. Never again!

looks better than the photo, beautiful stainless. met all my expectations and pulls better shots than prior more expensive machine. there aren't a lot of adjustments to tinker with but that's preferable for me as i would just obsess over little details that, given my palate, i would not be likely to notice. makes great espresso, warms up quickly, easy to keep clean. overall i really like it. someone like me who makes one latte for breakfast and once consumed doesn't think about it will do well with this. someone whose goal is absolute perfection and enjoys the process will be happier with a more complex instrument and should probably spend the $ and sacrifice the counter space (yes that was a welcome change, reducing the space required). overall very please and a bit happier with this machine than anticipated.

Great starter (and more) machine

I bought this machine a little under a year ago and have waited a while to give my impressions. Disclaimer: this is my first ever espresso machine, so I don't have a wide range of other options to compare it to, but I wanted to write up a review in the event that anyone is looking for a first machine and a bit intimidated. I gave some thought to some cheaper, more automated machines, but ultimately decided that I would rather take the big plunge and force myself to push through any learning curve. Overall, I've found the machine to be simple to use, consistent, and with enough of a balance to keep things interesting but also to be simple enough to lazily make a solid cappuccino when I'm not feeling like buying an expensive bag and dialing in/tinkering. I do wish mine had a PID, but it looks like they have just been added to newer models. I feel confident that this machine will remain a main driver for many years to come in my coffee-making arsenal.

Can't Wait to Brew

So far great. I've had the machine for a couple of weeks. My personal method of judging is how badly do I want a second brew or how much do I look forward to my next cup? The answer is that I've had to make myself a second every day so far. I get up in the morning a little excited for the espresso. I also enjoy the semi-manual process. I've been making espresso since 1982 after learning to love it during a summer trip to Europe. Ah, but for the last 20 years I've had super automatics. When my Brevelle Oracle failed last month, I was a little concerned over the manual aspects of the Diletta. It's been a while since I've had to grind and tamp my espresso. I was happy to quickly find I had nothing to worry about. I'm sure there are many nuances and tricks I could apply for a better brewing process, but I am not that much of a connoisseur. I find I either love it and crave a second or if the latte is so-so, (like buying one from an espresso stand) then one is enough, and after one I'll switch to something else to drink. As I mentioned, with the Diletta, I'm having two brews a day. It really is that good ... making me a happy customer.

Just buy it!

Love this machine. I had a Rancilio Silvia for 12 years and this is night and day. I flip the lever for espresso, walk to fridge and put milk in frothing jug, froth, and few seconds left before espresso is ready. Amazing and perfect every time.

Concur, exceeded my expectations. Wish I would have purchased a manual machine twenty tears ago. everything you need and nothing you don't. Double pressure gauge helps dialing in grind. Feels solid and high quality. Guess Italians do know boots and espresso machines.

Great machine, easy to use and looks amazing in our kitchen

We are very happy with our new Diletta Bello Espresso Machine. It was easy to setup and is very simple to use. While we are still learning how to make designs in our Cappuccinos, it makes amazing espresso coffee. Having the dedicated hot water spout, makes it easy to make my Americanos in the morning. In the afternoon we make Cappuccinos, which you can make in under a minute including clean-up.Two areas for improvement are: 1) Better instructions - for example the manual does not explain why there is a pressure gauge and the relevance of targeting the green zone. 2) Having more room for a slightly taller cup under the portafilter..

Generously Exceeded ALL Expectations

Wonderful, exceeded all expectations! Extraordinary old-world craftsmanship, plus gorgeous modern style and convenience. Love the double-needle presser gage, the 3.0 liter removable water reservoir, the all metal construction, and the heavy duty commercial grade portafilter, steamer, fittings, and more. It all feels like it is indestructible and will last a lifetime. BTW, the drinks are glorious, equalling or exceeding anything I?ve had commercially. I?m sooooo glad I didn't fall for the fully automated models as I'm truly enjoying the art and science of crafting my perfect coffee each day.
