Overview

No, but seriously.. when was the last time your machine had a good bath? The Urnex Liquid Dezcal formula is designed to descale your home espresso machine with high efficiency for an active deep cleaning. Many machines will not sense any water in the tank if the mineral level is too low (ex: distilled water), but filtered water will slowly deposit minerals inside the hot water tank and boiler, or along other internal components, which will continue to build up with each use of the machine.

That said, much like changing the oil in your car, neglecting to descale your espresso machine will lead to a rapid decline in its performance over time. You'll notice the espresso start to taste worse, and sooner than later your machine will just call it quits... nobody wants that! Give your brewer a steady diet of Urnex Liquid Dezcal to actually extend its service life and keep flavors tasting just as fresh as your first cup.

Using Liquid Dezcal on your Machine

  • Use a ratio of 1:10, Liquid Dezcal to Water
  • Pour solution into your machines' water reservoir
  • Run through internal components by following instructions provided in your manual (each machine has its own system)
  • Flush machine 2-3 times with clean filtered water
Urnex

Great responsiveness from SCG website, with my order arriving a couple of days earlier than expected. Instructions were easy to understand and I was able to flush and descale my espresso machine without problems.

Works as advertised!

This did the trick on my commercial Keurig that required descaling. Couple hours worth of work (mostly wait time) and it was back in business, like new.

This will make you stop using vinegar for descaling!

Great stuff. Be sure to rinse one more time than you think you need. In other words, I detected a bit of an off flavor after flushing my Bunn Thermocarafe coffee maker only twice. I believe three flushes would have resolved the issue altogether. This is the first time I've ever used anything but vinegar for descaling. I like the fact that the kitchen doesn't smell like my old photography darkroom did back in the day.

Good descaler

This was recommended by one of your staff and it works well. The hard water residue in the water tank is eliminated after a descale is completed, so I assume it has done its job internally as well.

Solved weak coffee issue with first use.

We noticed our morning coffee getting weaker and weaker over time, and the temperature into the carafe seemed a bit low. The coffee machine had not been descaled since new. I did quite a bit of research online before purchasing this product, and it seemed to have the most promise. I used it according to the directions and got immediate and noticeable improvement on the first try. I plan on descaling once a month for 3 months then quarterly after that.

We have extremely hard water and I use this excellent product on our coffee maker about twice a month. It keeps the machine working properly and the coffee tasting great.

It works and it's harmless. So you don't have to worry about how Clean your final rinse of the machine is.

Read Carefully

Don’t really care for it. Hard to measure and I’m worried about spilling it. I didn’t read carefully enough, I Always get the powder.... much easier!

Very effective coffee maker cleaner

I have a Ninja Coffee bar and it worked great on the maker much better than vinegar. I could see what was removed in the residual water. I didn’t give it 5 stars because it is somewhat tricky to figure the amount of solution to use. Takes some measuring.

Works perfectly

My Via Venezia stopped working properly the same time my grinder stopped working like it should. So I ordered some Dezcal liquid with my new grinder. I like that no mixing is required. Measure 1 part Dezcal for 10 parts water. Cycle the mixture through the machine as instructed and two tanks of water to rinse. Now my Via Venezia works like a brand new machine.

Can this descaler be used with a Nespresso machine, such as the Essenza Mini?

Hi - Can this be used with a Gaggia Academia safely? If not, is there something you can recommend for descaling the Academia? Thanks, Lola

Ron M.

I’m not familiar with that specific machine but it’s my understanding that it is compatible with any coffee maker. Descalers are an acidic solution that will react with calcium in water to bring it into solution so it will flush out of the system

Jake B.

Hello, Yes this should be compatible with the Academia, it looks to have a Stainless Steel lined Aluminum boiler, and this descaler can be used on stainless steel lined boilers.

Can this descaler be used with the Breville Express Impress machine safely?

Jake B.

Hi James, Yes it can be used with any of the Breville Barista line of espresso machines. The boiler/thermoblock is lined with Stainless Steel so there isn't aluminum in contact with the descaled.

Should I use Liquid Dezcal with Technivorm Moccaster? Followed the instructions but the smell of the Dezcal will not go away in pot, machine, and plastic pieces. I’ve run 6 cycles of fresh water at this point. Please help!!!

Can I use this n my Rocket Apartamento ?

Greg R.

I have used it in mine for years. Don’t send the machine in. It’ll just cost you a fortune. Also replace the ceramic in the head with non ceramic when you get a chance.

Patrick C.

Rocket Espresso machines should only be descaled by professional technicians due to the design of the E61 group head.
