Rinza can also be used on steam wands and frothing pitchers by simply leaving the affected item to soak in full immersion. For particularly messy jobs, we recommend allowing the item to soak overnight in Rinza so that all milk protein, fat and calcium build-up can be targeted and separated from the underlying steel. Steps for Use of Urnex Rinza

  • Measure - Combine 0.5-oz of Rinza with 17-oz of water
  • On average - Soak for 15 to 30 minutes
  • Rinse - Purge your steam wand and/or rinse the previously immersed area with clean filtered water

Is this suitable for a SMEG espresso maker? Do I put it in the tank and run it through like the descaling?

Hello, It is possible, but generally milk systems are not cleaned by running anything through the machine. It's like that you'd soak the steam assembly in a diluted solution, but I'm not familiar enough with the SMEG machine to say for certain. I would recommend looking through the manual to see what it has to say about cleaning the steam assembly.

Yes, you just dispense a dose from the rinza bottle, add water, and then run your frother cleaning cycle as recommended by the manufacturer. Be aware that most manufacturers require use of their product or you risk invalidating your warranty.

I own a Breville Oracle and it cleans my frother. It should work the same on any machine. You mix it with water and soak your steam wand and nozzle head. Make sure you run steam immediately after each use or the milk will end up in your boiler.
