Conical Burr Grinders For Espresso

FAQs
A conical burr grinder uses a cone-shaped inner burr and a ring-shaped outer burr to grind whole coffee beans. Espresso-focused models pair this burr design with adjustment controls intended for dialing in espresso.
Single-dosing means weighing the beans for each brew and adding them to the grinder before grinding. Hopper-fed grinding keeps beans in the hopper between uses. Some conical burr espresso grinders support both workflows, while others are designed primarily for one.
Timed dosing runs the grinder for a programmed duration. Grind-by-weight dosing uses a built-in weighing system to stop at a selected target weight. With timed dosing, check the grounds on a separate scale, especially after changing beans or grinder settings.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for burr access and cleaning frequency. Use a grinder brush to remove loose grounds from accessible burrs and the grind chute, and clean the hopper as directed. Use grinder-cleaning tablets only if your manufacturer approves them.
Remove the previous beans from the hopper using the method described in your grinder's manual. Some grounds may remain inside, so follow the manufacturer's purging guidance before grinding the new coffee. Record your settings for each coffee as a starting point for future use.
