Magnetic Dosing Cups For Espresso Preparation

FAQs
A magnetic dosing cup holds ground coffee before you transfer it into your portafilter basket. Built-in magnets connect the cup to a compatible attachment point, such as a grinder’s designated cup holder. The attachment method varies by design.
Remove the cup from its magnetic attachment point and transfer the grounds into the portafilter basket. Some cups support an inverted transfer: place the portafilter over the cup’s opening, hold both together, and flip them over. Other designs use a pouring motion. Follow the transfer method specified for your cup, then distribute and tamp the grounds.
Place the empty dosing cup on your coffee scale and tare the scale to zero. Add your ground coffee, then place the filled cup back on the scale to check the coffee’s weight. Tare with the empty cup each time so the reading excludes the cup itself.
A dosing cup is a separate container that collects grounds before you transfer them into the portafilter. A dosing funnel sits on top of the portafilter basket while you add or distribute coffee. Both accessories may feature magnets, but they serve different roles in your espresso workflow.
Brush out loose grounds after use and wipe away coffee residue with a soft cloth. For a deeper clean, follow the manufacturer’s care directions for the cup’s material, finish, and magnetic components. Check those directions before soaking the cup or putting it in a dishwasher, and dry it thoroughly before adding fresh grounds.
