Love it with one small reservation

The tea maker created a major change for my wife. She was concerned that there was no longer the ceremony. However, she did note the tea (Assam black) was smoother. What "sealed the deal" was when early on, I was not around, I left a little note with an arrow "Just push the button". It's the only way to go. What I would really appreciate is a better way to empty the tea basket of wet leaves without having to wash them down the drain. Anyvthoughts?

Breville one touch tea maker

This tea maker is the best. You don?t have to worry about steeping your tea wrong as it knows all the different times and temperatures. It is very easy to use and clean.

Consistent, Easy, Fun, and Makes a Wicked Cuppa

I'm more of a coffee guy, but I go through a tea phase three or four times a year. I've never been able to brew a pot of tea as well as my British friends, but this baby is a match for even my Brit friends, who are impressed with it as well. It is consistent, easy, and even fun. I love watching the basket lower and raise; it is mesmerizing. It's pricey, no doubt, but well worth it.

Nice while it worked, lasted <1yr, poor customer service.

Machine was enjoyed while it lasted. We experienced what appears to be a common issue of the basket light perpetually flashing and the machine not heating water. The basket just goes up and down continuously if the machine is plugged in, water temperature and other settings can't be used and the machine doesn't heat so it is rendered useless. Frustrated by the fact the only solution offered after contacting Brevill is to unplug the machine and plug it back in, if that doesn't work return it. We've only had it for 8mths, received as a wedding gift, and don't have a receipt. Brevill said send them a picture of the code on the bottom of the base. Turns out it was manufactured in 2011 so they won't accept the return but we can have 10% off a new one. Thanks so much, very generous (insert sarcasm). It was a good 8mths but a complete waste of money. Considering the exorbitant cost I just wish the customer service was better.

if you REALLY love your tea...

I received this as a Christmas gift as I could not justify spending 250 on a glorified hot pot. I must say it is very sophisticated in all of its settings and does what it is supposed to do. I will def. be keeping it and using it, however, there are many ways to make a great cup of tea, and in ancient times it was an art to be learned. So it sort of makes me sad that this takes all of the mystery out of it and the process of re-steeping tea to really get to know the quality of the leaves you have. In any case, it is a nifty appliance to add to your counter and if you drink a lot of tea, and do not want to think about it (r e steeping times, repeat steeping so forth...) this is for you. Came very well packaged and worked exactly as stated. One issue, and this seems odd in design, esp. for the person who does not want to think about or deal with much in making the tea -- the entire kettle part must be carefully washed as no water should touch the bottom where it has electrical stuff that hooks into the base. So cleaning it is careful wash by hand every time. If you are really into tea, and gadgets, this is for you.And yes, I love mine, even tho it is a pain to clean, and still trying to figure out if i can re steep expensive teas like I did previously.

How did I love without it?

I love this! It is easy to use and great for having my tea ready for the morning. I love the boiling water feature when I want to drink pre-bagged tea. My only complaint is the strainer doesn't get all the little bits and I end up drinking remains of leaves. I won't ever go back to the old way though, it is the best out there!

Wonderful Product

I have had this tea maker for a week now and it is wonderful to use. Makes great tea and keeps it hot in the process. My only con for this item is that I wish the keep warm lasted longer than an hour.

Buy it and find out why later

Bought this for my wife. I'm the coffee guru but she won't touch the stuff. She orders tea from Germany and loves it. If she buys the best she should have the best machine to brew it with. THIS is the cat's meow in the tea world and we're happy customers of SCG just like everyone else. One cleaning cycle when you get it and it's ready to go to work. When the woman is happy, everybody is happy. Swallow the price and buy the best, you won't regret a dime. Already ordered some goodies for me from SCG immediately after this arrived at the door. Buy the best from the best, that's our motto. :)

Breville Tea Maker

I have been truly amazed by the overall performance of this tea maker. I have purchased several top rated tea makers in the past and nothing compares to the ease and quality of the final tea product. Reviews have stated that the carafe cannot be cleaned and that it was a drawback. I have found that simple rinsing after use and utilizing the clean feature are sufficient to keep the system in perfect check.Pros:Quick Brewing, Easy To Use, Commercial Grade, Great Taste, Large Water Container, Easy To Clean, Truly the best tea makerCons:I can't think of anything

Can we make just one cup of tea?

Sam F.

No. The smallest amount of tea that can be brewed is 500 ml, just over 2 cups (17 fl oz). That's not much more than a typica large 12 oz mug holds though. I've had the tea maker for years and think it's an excellent product.

Can sugar be added to the carafe?

Customer

Hi - I have never put sugar in my carafe but it doesn't seem like it would cause harm. Love my tea maker! Use it constantly for over two years without problem.

KSN

I suppose you could; its like any tea kettle. However, it isn't immerseable so it would probably be better if you added the sugar in your cup in terms of washing the pot.

can you add rock sugar to the water and then start the cycle so the sugar will melt?

Michael R.

We use this daily, but have never used rock sugar. If you plan to use rock sugar, I would add to the basket and not to the water directly. There is a small thermocouple at the bottom and the base is the heating element. If either of these got coated with sugar residue, it might risk proper temperature control. And lets be honest, the automatic function is the thing that makes this such a wonderful tea maker. I can't say I recommend using rock sugar, but if you do, I would say add only to the basket and then rinse well after each usage. The cleaning solution that is meant for this tea maker works very well for tea stains, but I don't know what it would do for sugar build-up.

Gina M.

No I tried that and some of the rock sugar stuck to the bottom. I put it in the canister with the loose leaf tea and it worked perfect ??

Jim

I have tried this without good results, the sugar appears to negatively affect the temperature probe.

Customer

Interesting! I have not done this. I absolutely love my tea maker, though!!
