When a brand-new coffee roaster opens up right next door to Starbucks, well… you know it’s going to be good. That’s what happened when Caffe Ladro opened up its first shop in 1994 on Upper Queen Anne in Seattle, right next door to Starbucks. To be fair, it’s a quintessential Seattle tale; Everyone knows there’s room for more than one great coffee shop in the Coffee Capital. Caffe Ladro—now a Seattle institution which means “coffee thief”—has always had to work twice as hard to produce quality coffee that appealed to the masses and beat out its next-door neighbor. These days, Caffe Ladro has 15 locations in Seattle and the surrounding region.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that these beans were roasted right after I ordered them and then sent straight from the roaster! I received a 15% discount, so I assumed these were older beans. I'm impressed and thoroughly satisfied.

How soon after roasting can we expect to receive these beans if ordering from outside of the northwest? Given that these beans are locally roasted near your shop and the premium ($20/pound), I'd like to make sure these beans are as fresh as possible, preferably within several days of roasting.

We do cycle through this and all of our local coffees very quickly, and the coffee is absolutely fresh if unopened for 4-6 weeks after the roast date. We ship local coffees that are within 2-3 weeks of their roast date. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that the beans will be within just a few days of their roast due to the selection we offer from a number of different roasters. If you are concerned about getting the freshest beans possible with us, then your best bet would be to order just one or two bags at a time and pay for expedited shipping to get them as quickly as possible. I hope this clarifies!
