Overview
Deliciously sweet, this clean low-acid coffee is named not for its difficulty to brew, but for the challenge the Counter Culture coffee buyers face in sourcing just the right beans for this blend. Designed to remind you of a traditional Italian espresso, Big Trouble combines those chocolatey, nutty flavors loved by so many to create an amazing cup no matter how it is brewed- pour over, french press, espresso- choose your favorite!

With blend names like Fast Forward and Hologram, Counter Culture Coffee better be as forward-thinking as its branding suggests! If you take a look into the history of this Durham, NC-based coffee roaster, you’ll find a little bit of disruption and a whole lot of innovation along the way. Counter Culture Coffee was founded in 1995 by two coffee-lovers with a mission: to produce sustainable, eco-friendly coffee beans. In fact, it was one of the first shade-grown coffee makers around and launched a shade-grown, bird-friendly line of coffee in 1997.

We love this coffee. It’s the only kind we use! The beans are less oily so it’s good for our machine, and I enjoy the subtle flavor changes that occur throughout the year as the different bean types become available.
Mediocre coffee which is not worth ordering a second time, especially when it took nearly a month to receive it. The overall experience with this purchase was a complete failure
Love it!
Will definitely ordered again!
An excellently balanced roast. Goes especially well when mixed as a half-caff using CC Slow Motion espresso beans.
Good, I liked it, bold and fresh. will compare to other beans
I was recommended this coffee durning a Chat session with the whomever is on the the Chat computer. I ordered it because the Chat staff said it was a good introduction to good seasonal coffee. I haven't enjoyed it at all, and now I have a lot to endure before it's gone. Or, throw it away? It may be a good choice for Seattle's staff, but that's the last time I fall for that one.
Nice balanced coffee that makes a very light and pleasant capucchino.
A fine enough roast and bean. Bright and sharp but lacked a fullness on the palate.
I like this coffee a lot for superauto use; very good with pleasant aftertaste.
Sorry to say, but I really didn't enjoy the flavor profile
Too nutty and on darker roast side than we are used to. The extraction is also not consistent (as opposed to say a Sightglass or Sugar bee)
This is light on the Italian-style espresso. My gf likes it a lot. I also like it although it's not exactly what I'm looking for in this style. I gave it 5 stars because she likes it a lot and it's fine for me.
We've been experimenting with new roasters and new roasts. Counter culture coffee is not only the best of the experiments, it is one of the best we've ever enjoyed. It produces an excellent crema and a smooth, steady pull in our Rocket Apartamento. However, the real value is in the smooth start and equally smooth finish. Whether in a latte, an americano or a dopio, big trouble produces a rich, smooth, taste.
I can see why this is a staff pick. Very smooth and balanced.
Very nice coffee - No trouble at all.
The website description characterizes it well-- nutty and traditional tasting. I can't see how anyone who likes espresso would dislike this-- seems like a crowd pleaser to me!
The review title is right off the bag and it is right on the money. I really enjoyed this as an espresso and is very good in milk based drinks. The coffee is smooth and is nutty. I usually like a more fuller body espresso, however there is something about this blend that just feels and tastes right. This will definitely be on my rotation and will order more from SCG.
These are flavorful with no bitterness whatsoever. Perfect for espresso and cappuccino. You never pull a bad shot with these.
This is a good, non-fruity bean. I don't enjoy fruity and was quite happy with the flavor. We brewed it as a pour-over and espresso (using the Flair) and it tastes good all around. Smooth, lives up to its description of nutty/chocolate. The only downside might be that it's not as intense as other espresso mixes: for a milk-based drink, I had to add a little less milk to get the same intensity of flavor.
Good one. Will reorder.
Really surprised how smooth, balanced and sweet it is. I usually buy 6 to 8 different types at a time. But this was amazing and I ended up ordering half of this, this time around.
Comes out great from my Jura A1.
I sent a video of my husband opening the box ?? of Coffee Beans by messenger on Facebook. He Loves each one & I Love spoiling him with Coffee ?? Beans!! ??????
Great in all brewing methods. As espresso, it is up there with all the top blends. Maybe just a tad short as the bean appearance and sizing isn't as consistent. But where it really shines is as a cold brew with big honey notes.
I highly recommend Big Trouble to make a great shot of espresso!
I’m not going to articulate it well, but I thought this had a good flavor. It was balanced with a slight hint of citrus or something acidic. I normally don’t like them too acidic but thought this was well done.
I love this coffee. It’s one of my go to three.
always my go-to. I ordered a bunch for the office
We had Counter Culture at a coffee shop in Knoxville and had to give a few of them a try. This has turned out to be our favorite and is always on the order list. Low acidity just the way I like it which makes the flavors pop!
Love the chocolate notes. This is a low acidity blend. Very delicious with milk.
I recall liking this coffee! But here's the problem, I was drinking it a few weeks ago, finished it and I've been drinking 2 other coffees the past 2 weeks and gee I don't exactly recall what I liked about Counter Culture, but I do recall liking it somewhat more than usual. I have yet to have purchased an unacceptable bag of coffee from SCG, but sure I like some more than others and Counter Culture was toward the top of my list. In fact I just ordered another bag.
I've tried many beans for my espresso machine - everything from Ritual, Cafe Vitta, Toby's, Stumptown, Blue Bottle, etc.. Anyway, I have a few faves and this immediately moved to the top of the list. Like the description says, it really does have such a clean flavor. It's not bitter and perfectly medium-bodied. I'm not familiar with all the coffee terminology but this is outstanding and will I keep this in constant rotation!
