Overview

The Diletta Alto Espresso Machine with Flow Control puts espresso creation at your fingertips. An upgraded version of the standard Diletta Alto, this version adds manual flow controls to the PID-equipped dual boiler formula. Only an inch wider than the original Diletta Bello, the Alto still manages to fit a 0.75L brew boiler and a 1.6L steam boiler in its counter-friendly case. Inside, all the user-friendly features found in the Bello+ make an appearance, including favorites like on-the-fly temperature controls, automatic shot timing, programmable preinfusion, and low power eco-mode. Experienced baristas will also love the Alto's upgrade to sprung valves with tap-to steam controls, and a top-accessible OPV valve for brew pressure adjustment. The addition of flow controls and a group pressure gauge lets you manipulate the extraction profile of your shots in real time, and opens up brew techniques otherwise impossible on a regular home machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is flow control on the Diletta Alto, and why would I want it?

Flow control lets you adjust how fast water moves through the coffee puck during a shot, using an upgraded valve with a pressure gauge built into the group. You can run long, gentle pre-infusions, declining-flow 'lever-style' shots or faster turbo shots — especially useful for light roasts and tricky beans.

Can I brew espresso and steam milk at the same time on the Alto with Flow Control?

Yes. It's a dual boiler machine with a PID-controlled 0.75L brew boiler and 1.6L steam boiler, so you can brew and steam simultaneously.

Is the Diletta Alto with Flow Control a good choice for a beginner?

It can be, because flow control is optional — leave the paddle open and it works like the standard Alto, with a shot timer and programmable pre-infusion to help you learn. If you know you'll never profile shots, the standard Diletta Alto gives you the same dual boiler for less.

What warranty comes with the Diletta Alto with Flow Control?

It carries a 2-year Seattle Coffee Gear warranty covering parts and labor for mechanical and electrical defects, and it's serviced at our own repair center.

I do not regret making that investment, the two-tone professional look, a bit intimidating, but a great update from my Breville. Still in my learning phase but oh boy I am loving it. The dual boiler gives me the freedom to pull espresso shots at the same time as I frothe my milk. Feels like a barista in my own home

Diletta Alto with Flow Control Review

I've only had the machine a week and a half, so this review is more about the amazing staff at Seattle Coffee Gear than the machine. Now, that is in no way meant as a slight towards our wonderful Deli (our chosen nickname for the Diletta Alto with Flow Control). It's fantastic! It makes delicious espressos and cawfee drinks. I've already realized how useful the flow control is and how ergonomically simple the levers for steam and hot water. I just need more time with Deli before I could say much meaningful or helpful. Jacob and Sean, wow! The two of them truly made this a wonderful, educational, easy and easy-going experience. My wife and I live on a ranch in Montana. It's beautiful here, but there's a lot more cows than people in this county and nothing resembling a coffee gear store. We could go to Salt Lake City or, perhaps, Minneapolis when we need a new espresso machine, but we love Seattle. We had never been to any of the Seattle Coffee Gear stores before, but we found our way to the Kirkland location on mass transit and were greeted by Jacob. We explained that we were looking to replace our super-auto of seven years with a semi-automatic, as it was showing signs of giving up the ghost. So, we weren't buying then, just researching. Jacob, nonplussed by this, showed us six or seven machines: detailed explanations, answers to all questions, except for those many which he anticipated before we asked. He was friendly, personable, so patient and knowledgeable. He even made us a lovely espresso before we exited back into the light Seattle rain. It was only about a week before we decided to go with the Diletta Alto with Flow Control, not waiting for our super-auto to expire as planned. It was just too fun having seen the possibilities. This is where Sean enters. He took our call to make the purchase, and a couple of calls with questions since we received the machine. I knew him and his level of expertise from the SCG YouTube videos. Like Jacob, Sean also provided exceptional customer service: professional, yet charming, clearly an excellent teacher, and again, so patient. I'm very much a novice at this espresso endeavor, and I am extremely grateful to have guides like these two gentlemen. Thank you, and I won't hesitate to call when I have more questions.

I love it! I’m a beginner so this might have been a big purchase but I love that I get the freedom to play.
