Failed After 13 Months

I was surprised that it failed since it appears well designed and manufactured. The power switch failed. It was a no-name part. With difficulty, I found a brand name (Omron) replacement. These units actually have a lot of electronics inside. If the motherboard goes, that's all, folks

The grinder you don't know you need

If you're in doubt about your grinder choice, definitely go with the Eureka Mignon series. It's built solid, has great features, and learning to dial in your grind sizes is fun with the stepless dial. It is worth the money to skip an entry level model.

Too Many Fines!

Had this for 3 months. Initially impressed by apparent by heft and overall build quality. Less impressed by grind consistency, but I bought it for brewed coffee, so wasn't that concerned. Until I went to open it up for the first time and clean the chute. I grind somewhat coarse, but the amount of fines built up in the grind chamber exit was ridiculous. The resulting in a blockage had nearly 3/4 of the chamber exit caked with baby-powder textured coffee fines. No wonder it's inconsistent. The "anti-static" zig-zag shaped screen that hangs down over the chamber exit effectively further encourages this buildup. Disappointing design flaw for a would-be quality brew grinder. To clarify, I tend to use city+ roasts, but nothing super dark/oily.

not this one

I have several models of the eureka grinders and by far this has to be my least favorite. I have 2 filtro models and one specialita. Love both models but the crono..... not sure the logic with that timer function and not being able to stop it. I also noticed the crono is slower than the filtro and the specialita. I definitely dont recommend this model.

I wouldn't buy again.

The grinder grinds acceptably. The problem is that it is loud, louder than any grinder I have had before. The timer is totally non-functional. I have raised the issue and don't seem to be really getting anywhere.

Superb grinder! So much better than former machine, to be left un-named. ?? Strongly recommend this for someone who wants a better and consistent espresso brew!

It's fine

It's a perfectly fine grinder but has a few problems that don't make it easy to use.Two big problems are:1. The coffee grinds are quite messy and will remain on the dispenser spout as well as very likely will get on the front of the grinder. Every time I grind I then have to clean which is not something you have to do on other grinders.2. The timer dial could be a bit more user friendly. I really don't use it anymore and just use the power button as an on/off. You have to not have the catcher connected and power it on for it to use the timer. It's confusing and shouldn't be confusing.Minor problems:1. I have no idea why the hopper has the "stop beans going down" slider. Why would I ever use that? It gets in the way.2. I can't see the beans in the hopper as it's very dark colored. This makes ensuring I don't leave the grinder running without beans hard. I have to listen or get really close to the hopper in order to know when to shut it off because the timer isn't great.

Nice Grinds but Bad Catch

The grinding itself is great. Nice consistent grounds. I'm assuming it will hold up much better than my Baratza, as the build quality is much higher. This thing is heavy and I doubt there would be much less plastic components if I took it apart. 5 star for grind and build quality. The downside is the catch, it's messy, it doesn't fit well, coffee grounds go everywhere, and lots of static. The way the top rubber piece of catch mates to spout, you have to slightly tilt or lift the grinder to wedge it in. Then the two pieces like to come apart when you remove, making a mess. Took awhile to get use to wedging it just right as to not continuously push on the grind start button. The on/off switch to stop it outside the timer is in an awkward space, especially when its pushed to back of counter in between other coffee things.

Great grinder

I highly recommend this grinder. Very solid construction and great design. Only downside is it is a little noisier than I'd like and it gets a little messy as there is a gap between the shoot and the receptacle.

Great grinder with a few minor issues.

Great grinder! Has excellent grind quality and consistency and it isn't real noisy. There are a couple of things that I thing would be an improvement. The catch bin should be able to attach to the grinder instead of being free standing. Because of this I rarely use it because of this, its just wonky to use. The hopper is and lid are made of very cheap plastic and definitely detracts from the overall quality of the grinder, but it is functional. Figuring out the right time to set the time dial to is not intuitive and is fiddley to figure out. Because of this I rarely use the time function. Over all I would recommend it.

Excellent Grinder for its Designed Purpose

I bought this as a replacement for my 5 or 6 year old Capresso Infinity Grinder. It was time. I brew coffee currently in a Moccamaster. Occasionally we'll pour a quick cup from a Bee House Dripper. That's it. I received this yesterday so here's my first impressions. It's heavy. All indicators are that it's very well made. It will not win any design awards -- although the quirky kind of industrial motif isn't all bad next to the MM on the counter. Dialing in the grounds was easy although making peace with the grind setting dial took some time. It's about the same height as the MM and sound-wise is around the same volume as the Capresso in my unscientific test -- it sounds different, perhaps a bit quieter. Why this model? Well, there were three or four in the running. A couple from Baratza, The Ode from Fellow and the Crono/Filtro from Eureka. It wasn't like I was going to make some life altering error with any of them. In the end the Ode dropped off, not for any good reason, I just felt like it was version 1. The Baratza's felt a little too familiar in design and operation to the Capresso. The two Eureka models were designed with the exact use I had in mind. Drip coffee. I chose the Crono as I had relied on the manual timer on the Capresso over the years. I could walk away while it was grinding and do something else. As I single doser -- in other words, I weigh the beans to the water volume, grind the beans and brew the coffee, the timer acts as kind of an auto shut-off. Once I figure out how long on the timer it takes to grind a full load of beans for my brew, it'll just give me the same freedom to walk away and get other stuff done while the beans grind. My initial attempt at this worked just fine -- the grinder ran for a second or two after the beans were ground and shut off. Just as I wished. How did it perform in its morning debut. Quite well. I kicked up the ground size a bit over my initial tests. The system, unsurprisingly brewed up a first class cup with Onyx Coffee Lab's Southern Weather -- a favorite. I got the familiar flavor profile, but maybe up a notch or two. Could just be psychological -- but maybe due to a better, more even grind. So, here's the early recap:ProsWell built, relatively quiet.Uniform grind sizeSimple to operate for its intended purposeConsThe grind setting is a little odd. It works just fine. If you jump back and forth with brew methods and need to change the setting, it's not ideal.Static. I live in the desert southwest so it's dry. The grinder is a little messy -- not a deal killer, but I do have a bit of clean up after grinding. The grounds bin takes some getting used to. It doesn't really 'snap' into place and there's a small gap at the top between the machine and the bin where some grounds can escape. I suggest that we'll adjust to each other. So far, no regrets at all. And, I am enjoying a damn good cup of coffee this morning. This was purchased from SCG in Feb of '22. The manufacturer's label on the box had a date of 6/21. I think that might be a date of manufacture for those that care about such matters.

Really Like with the exception of Grind Hopper

Would I recommend- Yes!Background- upgrading from Breville Smart Grinder. What I like- The construction of the Mignon is heavier and has more of a commercial grinder feel. The grinding is fast, quieter (than the Breville) and the grinds are more consistent flat burrs vs conical (Breville). Sold on flat burrs. The price is very reasonable. What I do not care for- the hopper the grinds go into. A coffee scoop does not fit into the bin, so have to pour contents out. Not a big deal generally, but the grinds have a static-electric charge and can go all over the counter when emptying contents into filter. Tried placing filter under grind shoot, but grinds ended up all over counter top.

Excellent purchase!

Absolutely love this grinder. I have the Eureka Silencio for my espresso grinds and both are workhorses!

K
Kimberly N.
Great value if you?re not you?re not a gram counter and using the hopper.

Timer is tricky to set. Even a hair?s rotation can add grams to the amount of ground coffee. The minimum time to run is also not less than 5 seconds so anything shorter requires use of the off/on button. This grinder works best for single dosing or users who aren?t the type to weigh their beans.

Great grinder for drip

Works better with a bellows lid I modified and leaded on the hopper to blow out retained ground beans. 64 grams in and 65 grams out. Eureka should come out with a add on option for a bellows lid or accessory.

Overall, works fine.

Overall it does a good job of grinding. I don't like the smoky colored container that catches the ground coffee. Very difficult to see just how much you have ground. I don't like how frequently the beans become jammed and stop feeding into the grinder. This requires reaching into the container and stirring the beans until they start feeding again. Because those beans become jammed, that renders the timer useless. I have the timer set to give me exactly the number of grams of coffee I want. But, when the beans become jammed, I get less than what I need. I haven't had it long enough to warrant a good cleaning. Judging from the how-to videos, that is not going to be a pleasant experience. But, overall it's an OK grinder.

Wasn’t sure,but...

I had been looking at a Eureka Mignon filtro and when the Crono was available at a good Black Friday sale price,I had to try it!Small size, metal case,50mm flat hurts and does a great job of grinding light roast beans, which is what I normally use.I wasn’t sure if the stepless adjustment was going to be a problem, but it hasn’t been. I started with the factory adjustment and adjusted from there. Hasn’t been a problem dialing it in! I only do pourover and drip, so when you’re in the ballpark, minor tweets are all that are needed.Very little retention so far, surprisingly quiet and performs very well. Also looks good on the counter,I bought the white version!Great machine and I couldn’t be more pleased with it!

What is the difference between this and the Notte besides the burrs?

P

Does this come with the espresso burrs ?

Does this grind fine enough for Expresso?

Patrick C.

Hi there,It can grind for espresso, but due to the stepless grind adjust we find it very inconvenient to adjust back and forth between multiple settings.

L
Liz Z.

I read this has the same burrs as the more expensive Eurekas, thus is quite suitable for espresso, but that going forward they would be made with downgraded burrs. Please clarify which burrs this one has?

Seattle Coffee Gear

I would also love to hear if it's possible to get this grinder with the original espresso burrs.

Does this Crono have the new Filtro Pro burrs?

Kenneth B.

Just got one a month ago (early Sept), still had the original burrs.

Paul B.

I just bought one a month ago and no. Regular espresso burrs.I strongly suspect they are 'extra'.
