Overview

Breathe new life into your old Aeropress with the Fellow Prismo filter assembly. The Prismo provides a little more resistance to your press, creating a thicker, richer coffee than a standalone Aeropress. While its not quite true espresso, you'll still get a coffee concentrate perfect for faux-lattes and other milk drinks. The Prismo also serves as a drip-proof end cap for your Aeropress, letting you use it for cold brew and other long-steep brew methods. It even includes a stainless steel aeropress filter—just the thing for richer, full-bodied cups.

Leaking. Not recommended!

Tried this method just out of curiosity. The coffee it brews turn out to have more bodies, and lack of clarity, compared to brewing with papers. To each their own, but I myself prefer more clarity. Also, the seal is not that good, and tend to leak hot water when brewing with finer grinds, which in fact, one of the main buying points of using this method (creating espresso faux cremas). This should not be a problem considering the price of this gadget is almost the same with the Aeropress itself...Not recommended!

A great coffee tool!

If you can start by letting go of the idea of ?espresso-like? coffee, then this tool is very fun for making very unique coffee. There are some very fun and interesting recipes out there by some talented baristas using this tool!

Excellent!

I am thrilled with this! I stopped using my aeropress because I wasn?t happy with the taste so much. This is really the perfect ?faux? espresso for me.

Really nice for faux espresso. It makes having an aeropress that much more utilitarian.

An excellent gadget for pressurizing an AeroPress shot.

Excellent device to bring an AeroPress a bit closer to being a manual espresso maker. It adds the dimension of high water pressure into the mix. I haven?t done a blinded taste test, but anecdotally it seems that the flavor is more intense and a bit smoother at the same time. I?m still playing around with the grind and the method but so far I like the effect.

Inverted Aeropress brewing without inverting!

I haven't even attempted an "espresso" shot yet, but can still give the Prismo 5 stars simply for allowing "inverted" brewing in the Aeropress without inverting! (The video is a bit misleading because she is still using the inverted method - it is totally unnecessary with the Prismo attachment!) I have been using an Aeropress for more years than I can remember, and the Prismo was totally worth the price for simplifying my brewing method!

Real espresso

I had pretty high hopes for this add on based on other reviews, but it is seriously a game changer. I think this is the closest you can get to real espresso at home without dropping thousands on a hardcore machine. Highly highly recommend for anyone looking to enhance their aeropress!

No Pre-Drip AeroPress

For me, this device is a necessary addendum part to the AeroPress. It prevents any dripping prior to pressing. I don't know why the Prismo use video (above) fills an *inverted* AeroPress (which relies on the piston seal to prevent dripping). I fill the AP "piston end up" with the Prismo end down on the coffee cup. The Prismo prevents any pre-drip. Stir and notice the level drops, not by drip thru, but because 20% of the coffee dissolves.

Halfway Attempt

If you want to do inverted without inverting, then you have something. If you want crema, this is foam. There is a large difference. AeroPress on average produces 40-45kg pressure. You need about 70kg and up for an acidic shot, regardless of temperature. The AeroPress is great but not engineered like Kompresso is -- a new product that (take this to the bank) really comes through even with colder water. I just bought this at SCA Expo. http://www.cafflano.com/product_kompresso.php?TM=2

interesting gadget

A novel idea. The rubber gasket creates a tight seal, so any pressure generated by the plunge has to go through the orange diaphragm. This should create more pressure than with a traditional Aeropress filter. But I think the orange pressure valve / diaphragm is still too large. It could be designed to create a more pressure. I expected pressure more similar to an espresso portafilter, but it was still much closer to a traditional filter. Maybe replacing our plunger will help.

What about clean up? I typically use my Aeropress when travelling to countries with bad tap water. I use bottled water to brew coffee, eject the puck, then "clean" by wiping with a napkin because running the unit under tap water would result in intestinal illness. Can the stainless filter in this unit just be wiped down, or does it require cleaning under running water?

RLLH

I use mine when hiking back country, water is not always good to drink without purifying, it does not take much water to rinse the unit so I use my purified water. Seems you can use a small amount of bottled water to rinse the unit and it will work until you return to better water sources.

Gerald S.

I would say yes you could. I personally use paper filters with the stainless filter for a smoother coffee. After pressing I flip the aero upside down. I unlock the prismo but don't remove it. Then slightly pull the plunger out, maybe a 1/4 inch. After that the paper filter should be unstuck from the prismo and I set it aside and plunge the coffee/ paper filter in the trash. Very clean when you get the hang of it.

Customer

No... I drive truck over the road and use the AeroPress for my coffee... as you described, cleanup is super simple. Just eject the puck and wipe down. I was disappointed that using this Prismo made cleanup more complicated than just “eject n wipe” ... I don’t think it would be a good choice for your application. Safe Travels!!!

Dusko K.

Hi Richard, just use common sense - with soft cloth / tissue you can remove the grinded coffee remnants to a certain extent, the attachment to be perfectly usable again. Running water will clean it all. Cheers,

Kevin L.

Depends on the grind size you use and whether or not you care about having trace amounts of coffee left in the mesh between uses. I will say that for general medium grinds, I could pretty easily wipe off the filter and use it again. If you're grinding on the finer side, you will definitely need a good rinse with hot water to get it clean.

Customer

I imagine it could be done. But honestly using the disposable paper filters is cleaner for your scenario. The metal filter would need more tlc to keep clean. Probably could get by with just a napkin clean for 5 to 10 uses. If you're thinking about it just for traveling I would just stick with paper filters.

What about blow back from pressing hard?

RLLH

First a question, do you leave the plunger in the holding tube, if so this will cause a set to seal making blow by possible. We have 3 units, one in the home, one for camping and one for air travel. WE have not experienced blow by yet.

Customer

I've had it happen once or twice, when I was using the tool badly. The thing that's surprised me most is that the required pressure depends on the grind of the coffee more than anything else. But I *really* like my Prismos.

Micah B.

I haven’t experienced that yet...it’s been fairly mess-free!

Reid B.

It doesn't work well if your plunger is worn out. Then coffee with come out around the plunger. Get a new plunger and all the pressure goes out the orange disc.
