Welcome to Seattle Coffee Gear’s great selection of Lavazza coffee, where you can browse all your favorite blends by this quintessentially Italian coffee roaster. You probably instantly recognize Lavazza, since it’s one of the world’s biggest and most beloved coffee roasters. But did you know that Lavazza is also one of the oldest coffee roasters, too? It was founded in 1895 by Luigi Lavazza and is still administered by the Lavazza family today. That means they’ve had over 100 years to perfect their craft!

For Lavazza Packaging Changes, Lavazza says: "We are constantly reevaluating our portfolio to offer the best assortment, experience, and taste to our customers." - Updates to the design of the packaging is common, if you have any concerns please let us know and we can verify you have the correct item.

For Lavazza's compressed or slightly puffy packaging on whole bean coffee, Lavazza says: "All bags of Lavazza coffee are fitted with a patented one-way valve allowing air and naturally occurring gases to exit the bag, while preventing oxygen from entering. This patented technology preserves freshness and the organoleptic properties of all Lavazza whole bean coffee. Depending on where the bag was placed on the pallet during transport, you may receive either a puffy or compressed bag, however both of the presentations are vacumm sealed."

For pre-ground coffee, Lavazza says: "All bricks of Lavazza coffee are fully sealed when shipped by our warehouse. If you squeeze the brick and no air exits, the seal is fully intact and the brick of coffee is fully sealed and there is no impact on freshness or preservation."

This tasted much better than I thought it would. I used a Breville Oracle touch at 195 degrees brewing temperature and a total pour time of 34 to 36 seconds.

    Very disappointed.

I expected dark roast but it is not. It has an acidic taste which is not to what I expected from 100% Arabic beans. The beans were very small contrary to what high quality Arabic beans is. If you wants dark roast premium quality beans you should consider Starbucks French Roast.

    Great Espresso Beans

These medium roast beans are prefect for my superautomatic machine. With strength a little above factory setting I consistently get great shots.

This is our favorite Italian coffee after trying lots of different brands and formulas. This is by far the best price I have been able to find and the delivery was very prompt. Will definitely order from SeattleCoffeeGear again.

    Lavazza’s Best Darker Riast

Gran Riserva is my favorite Lavazza bean profile and taste. I prefer medium / dark roasts that aren’t as oily and prepare my cappuccino & latte thru my Breville Barista. The good: good toffee, thick, slightly woody undertones The bad: Roast dates that are about a year ago, so beans taste great immediately after opening but even with careful storage, seem to lose some character, sooner than my local roasted Peet’s Forte beans. It’s also possible that my taste buds get “used to” the flavors..At Gran Riserva’s great taste at around $10/lb, it’s always a taste, time & cost battle with the (around 40%) more expensive local small- batch roasters’ beans.

    Gran Riserva in deed

Great flavor. The first time I served it to guests - they exclaimed, 'This is wonderful coffee. What is it?' I showed them the package. One of them took a picture of it and asked where I bought it. That's the first time that's ever happened to me.

what is the flavor intensity ?/10

It’s probably one of the “darkest” Lavazza roasts there is. I’ve tried about 7 other Lavazza whole beans and brew my coffees from a Breville Barista (3-4 fineness setting) so I’d say 8-9, relatively speaking. Lavazza, like most Italian roasters, don’t roast real dark, like how many of us Americans are used to,

I would say 8. It is pretty mellow but does have an earthy aftertaste. It's a great value.

What is the difference between this "Gran Riserva Filter" coffee and the coffee simply labeled "Gran Riserva?" They are both whole bean. Is there something different about the roasts? Are both equally suitable for use in a superauto?

    MNKC

I've purchased both, andI find "filtro" to be more oily. I would not use it in my super auto machine.

    Marc S.

The Gran Riserva "Filtro" is 100% Arabica beans, while the regular Gran Riserva is a blend of Arabica (80%) and Robusta (20%) beans.

Does this (Lavazza Gran Riserva Filter Coffee - Whole Bean) make good espresso? Are the beans dry enough for a Super Automatic?

    Norman T.

Much drier than Peet's and most local artisan toasted beans. I use Gran Riserva for my semi-automatic and “feel” better about not increasing the oil residue within my machine and still pulling fuu-flavored shots.

    Adrineh B.

The Dark Roast (blue and purple bag) is perfect for an espresso. I use them in my Intelia One touch, for espresso and cappuccino.

    Counce H.

Yes, the Gran Riserva makes excellent espresso. The beans are mostly dry, but I leave the beans open so that surface oils dry, before putting them into the grinder in my machine.
