Not worth the price - poor interface and eats batteries.

There are good OXO products, but this is not one of them. My scale is barely 4 months old and I've already had to change the batteries. The bigger issue for me is the the interface - most of the time I try to tare/zero out a weight, I turn the scale off and sometimes the scale won't turn off. Definitely not worth the price tag.

My Favorite Scale for Drip Coffee

I have been using this scale alongside my Moccamaster for a little over 2.5 years. I'm surprised to see the review about the batteries needing to be replaced quickly, because today is the first time I've EVER had to replace the batteries in the entire time I've owned this.I like it for its quick responsiveness and simplicity of use. I don't need precision because I'm not using it for espresso, and I have a Fellow Tally for when I want to make pour over, which isn't often. My only issue with this scale is that the top surface is plastic, and after 2.5 years (even with care) it's scratched from being wiped down over time (and eventually, depending on your lighting, you will want to replace it for just this reason).I tried the other small scale from OXO and found it slower to respond, but it does have a glass surface that won't scratch from wiping off bits of ground coffee.I actually replaced this scale with the Acaia Pearl scale (Pitch Black version). It looks nicely minimalist and attractive next to my Eureka grinder and Moccamaster, until you put the ugly rubber pad on to protect the surface.Looks are one thing, but I hate that thing. It's totally unintuitive. For instance, turning it off requires two presses of the on/off button, and it's very easy to be uncertain if you're measuring in grams or something else. Since my espresso machine is a Jura, I don't really need it, I just liked the simplicity of the look, but I'm going to sell it and buy another of these scales instead.I will see if I can get another year out of it without being too scratched just by using a cleaning solution spritzed microfiber cloth every time I have to clean the surface.Because I value simplicity, quick response, and accurate enough precision for my purposes, after trying four different scales, this is the one I want to be using daily. If these are the kinds of things that matter to you, you might want to consider this scale (and a dampened microfiber cloth for wiping it).I enjoy using this so much for my purposes, despite having more expensive/advanced scales in the house, this is the one I'm going to buy again for use most days.

Seems accurate, but does not work on the drip tray of my silva pro x. The weight never properly tares and the scale just keeps counting upwards with nothing on it

A bit too thick but good

Not Happy.

LED screen too light. Can't read it with the ceiling light directly over it. Gram counter not perfectly accurate which is needed if you're making espresso.

Would not recommend. Poor battery life and UI design.

TL;DR - do not buy this scale! I can't believe it's being marketed to coffee people. It is flawed in its design. It was bought from SCG in early December 2023 (through a guest account, unfortunately no purchase number available). As for its performance, not too bad. I'm basically too much of an amateur to really judge its speed/precision, and I don't make espresso so no problems with accuracy for that use case. But here's where it gets ugly: a few weeks after opening, the screen displayed LOW with a drained battery icon during the middle of my pour and it totally shut down. I never use the "disable auto-off function", so I chalked it up to possibly being shipped with stale batteries and replaced them (FOUR triple-As, btw). 14 days later, it happened again. This alone would be unacceptable in my book, but what pushed me over the edge here was the realization that there's no battery life indicator during normal use. Yet, the display has the audacity to show me a low battery indicator when it decides to yell "LOW" and shut down on me in the middle of its use? I attached a video that shows exactly what happens here - it goes from reading the weight to "LOW" without warning, and shuts off shortly afterwards. Even without a terrible battery life, you have to expect that all users would be experience this sudden shutdown at some point in the product's life. Because the low battery indicator doesn't actually warn you of what's about to happen.I'm honestly struggling to think of how this product could have been designed for or by anyone who does coffee. I'm usually quite impressed with the price-to-value ratio of OXO products, but this one is a complete miss. Do not buy.

Perfect reliable huge range (except maybe espresso I hear) LOVE IT

Just perfect from grams to ounces to pines. Read it?s not good for single espresso tiny amounts but I don?t do thet. The range is amazing it?s performance is awesome and I use it daily for years.

I don?t need to measure down to the hundreth of a gram.

I use this scale daily for both chemex pour over and espresso. I find the accuracy and sensitivity to be more than adequate. Of course, I?m half Italian, and we don?t necessarily always measure down to the hundreth of a gram when making anything in the kitchen. As an added bonus, the rubber slip cover doubles as a tamping pad.

Great Scale

This replaced my first Oxo Precison Scale and Timer. I dropped my first one and it didn't weigh properly after that. I love this scale for it's accuracy and .01 gram increments. I use it for pour overs in my Chemex pot and for additional food that I need a precise measurement. If you don't want the batteries to die fast, just turn the unit off when you no longer are using the timer - otherwise they die quickly. It's a very shiny black which shows everything - so I wipe mine down daily. The silicone pad washes easily. I recommend it for measuring beans for pour overs and the timer for pour overs.

Good, for what it is.

As another reviewer mentioned, you're not going to get single-bean accuracy?the measurement jumps by 0.3g to 0.7g at a time. It's great for pourovers, but true 0.1g precision as advertised (especially for espresso use, where half a gram can make a huge difference in extraction) would have been good.

Good scale for aeropress and pour over but not espresso

Like the size and usability of the scale. However, it isn't really accurate to 0.1g. When I weigh my beans it doesn't respond to each individual bean. After I add a few of them, then the scale will jump by as much as half a gram. Its good for pour over and my aeropress. But not going to cut it for espresso.

Good product, good value

Excellent. Easy to read and store, although small enough to keep on the counter. Not to mention the reasonable price and Clive's friendly and timely support.

Not bad but could be better.

It’s ok but the surface area could be larger for the size of my portafilter. Also if you are adding or removing very small amounts of coffee to/from your portafilter you have to tap the scale to get it to register the change.

Great scale, accurate, easy to use. Came with dead batteries. Make sure you have 4 AAA batteries handy...

Flexes and tilts a bit under pressure, otherwise great.

Works well, controls are intuitive and react well. Looks good, I don't love the silicon heat pad on the top, but it's okay. (it's removable)My only complaint is that the chassis flexes and tilts a bit when I hit the buttons, especially the buttons on the far left and right. It makes the whole thing feel a little unstable, at least in my head. I tend do be a bit heavy handed sometimes so perhaps it is only an issue for the door slammers and jar tighteners out there.Over all satisfied, but not wowed.

Can someone elaborate as to why measuring for espresso is a con? Thanks

Patrick C.

Hello! The issue is accuracy. you need accuracy down to .01g for accurate espresso measurement, this scale isn't quite that precise.
