works very well—I like the ergonomic handle, and the heft of it. Seems more substantial than the portafilter that originally came with my machine.

I bought this together with a tune-up kit for my old Silvia. My original portafilter never seated properly and this got worse as the O-ring seal hardened. (Unlike other commentators above, I don't think that the design or manufacturing detailing of the original Silvia was that great; it is designed more like a piece of military equipment!)Together with the tune-up, this is a great improvement, and one I wish I had made earlier. I would highlight everything written above by Jesse A.I would also add that this is a heavier and more ergonomic handle than my original portafilter, which now seems junky by comparison. The heavy weight is satisfying and the shape of the handle feels good in the hand. The larger size of the handle also offers more leverage to create a tight seal. If you have an old Silvia, you will probably be happy with the upgrade.

I bought this to use for a DIY bottomless portafilter. I didn't like that most of the bottomless portafilters for sale out there seem to be 3rd party knock-offs and I had heard some folks having sealing issues, etc. I figured I'd buy this OEM Rancillio version, do it myself, and save about $30 while I was at it. Clearly an improvement over the older design. You need to get used to the downward angle of the handle. Tamping is a bit more challenging since the single spout forces you to lean the portafilter on the counter if you are applying pressure. I have a V1 Rancilio Silvia and I bought this to replace my broken portafilter. This is a great upgrade. It is tons better then the original and fits perfectly.
