I bought the small one at first, but then I switched to the large one for a larger area. It works great for tamping!

Ok for the price, but I can see already that this thing is not going to last very long. It's just also way too small.

Solid choice; way cheaper than the rest but does exactly what you need it to do. My Solis portafilter has relatively sharp ?horns? and this thick slab handles them well

Very happy with this purchase. The material is thicker then anticipated. I no longer use my cutting board to tamp. I purchased the small size and when my Silvia is done cooling down, I store it right on the cup warming tray, where it fits perfectly. Only complaint is that it stinks like an aisle of industrial plastic at the Home Depot, but that has settled.

This is no cheaply made tamping mat. The thickness and weight of this tamping mat is incredible I love it! It is definitely worth buying to protect your countertop. I haven’t seen any other mats like this for sale anywhere else. Thank you SCG for selling this.

Exactly what we needed and small enough to fit on our limited counter area.

I really, really wanted to use this, vs the cardboard I use to tamp on. But the smell of this is too strong. I've washed it, aired it out, put it up in a chinet. It smells up the whole cabinet. It's a great material for a tamping mat, but the smell has got to go.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Very heavy and looks near indestructible. But that?s likely because it looks and smells just like the same rubber one would get in a tire. So although it works well, be forewarned that it carries a distinctive tire smell.

I bought 2. I cannot use them. They have a very strong chemical smell. I left them outside for a week in the rain and sun, ran through the dishwasher too. They still stink. If you touch them your hands stink. Do not buy them!!!

I have an old Expressivo Clickmat that I've been using the last six years. It's a great tool fro ensurgin a consistent tamp. But the little rubber inserts tear very easily and I've been looking for something sturdy to just drop on top off the Clickmat. The small Rattleware Espresso Tamping Mat was just the thing. It's provides a solid flat surface that still allows the Clickmat to function unimpeded below it. Great accessory everyone should have for the espresso set up.

I found that a nice rubber mat is very useful when tamping a portafilter at the standard 30lb level. This mat fits that bill perfectly.

Decided after nearly two years of using a folded up paper towel to catch drips, excess ground coffee or whatever - that it was time to upgrade to an actual mat. Medium size tamping mat keeps counters clean and stores nicely behind my grinder. Only downside is chemical smell when removing from packaging. Rattleware needs to offer a BPA-free version of this and I would upgrade.

Wanted a small but sturdy tamping mat to keep from dinging up my portafilter and/or trashing my countertops. I purchased the small size and it is a nice narrow rectangle that provides plenty of room to work without taking up too much space. Thick, heavy duty rubber and is well made.

We were always using the countertop to tamp our ground coffee puck. We purchased the medium mat and put it directly in front of the espresso machine. Saves the countertop surface and is a hard rubber so you can press hard on the puck. We've used it daily for a few months now and not a dent in it. Besides, it collects all the coffee grounds so all you do is rinse it under water and your counter is clean!

This tamping mat is a great accessory especially if you have a portafilter that tends to scratch or dent your counter top. This mat is a nice size (not too big and not too small) and it works well and cleans up well. My only gripe about the product is the terrible rubber smell when you first open up the product. Using the tamping mat is much nicer than tamping onto a towel or bare counter top. In retrospect, I wish I would have ordered the one that wraps around the corner of the counter; this doesn't come into play with my standard portafilter, but with a bottomless one I need the mat on the edge of the counter so that I can place the bottomless portafilter flat on the mat.The only suggestion I would have to the manufacturer is to apply a slight texture to the working sides of the mat for aesthetic purposes.
