Overview

Is there something off about your coffee, but you can't quite put your finger on it? Are you noticing an unsightly drip around your portafilter? These might be early signs that it's time for a tune-up! If you're ready to do a little handy work, try our Seattle Coffee Gear Tune-Up Kit. Depending on how often you use your machine will inform your maintenance schedule. Typical daily users require maintenance at 3 or 6 month intervals. More occasional users may find that annual maintenance is sufficient.

How to Know When Your Oscar or Musica Needs a Tune-Up:

  • Is coffee and/or water dripping over the top edge of your portafilter when pulling a shot? This is a clear sign that you need to replace your brew head gasket. Your portafilter is no longer making a seal.
  • Does your pump sound like it's working harder than usual when pulling a shot? This is a sign that your screen needs to be replaced. Your screen will build up coffee residue over time creating more resistance for your pump. Which can decrease the life of your pump over time.
  • Does your coffee just generally taste off? Are you having a heard time tasting the difference between two different beans? The brew head area has a tendency of collecting coffee residue left behind from pulling a shot and can have a negative impact on the overall taste of your shot.

Great kit. Anyone that has one of these espresso machines will need to get one of these periodic...

After taking out the old rubber gasket, I realized how hard and brittle it had become. It also explained why the portafilter was sometimes leaking and difficult to twist into the brew head. After replacement, the portafilter easily twist into place now. The new screen also makes this kit worth it since the old screen was gummed up with coffee oil residue and grease making it impossible to clean.

I installed it yesterday; the machine works fine. BTW, we have two Oscars, one in New Mexico and one in Maine. This kit went on the one in Maine

no more leak

My Nuova Simonelli was started forming a leak and it was getting progressively worse. A quick search lead to the tune-up kit. Thanks to the installation video I replaced the old, brittle gasket and shower screen quickly. Water isn't leaking around the filter any more, and I am again enjoying coffee.

Oscar tune up

My oscar was leaking water. I called seatle coffee gear 3x before I finally find out that I needed to tune it up. At first the lady told me that my grind is too fine and that I needed to adjust it. I did and still leaking. I'd kept on adjusting the grind but still not working so I'd decided to backfush it like I did before and it was leaking like crazy so I know it's not the grind. I called coffee gear and was told I need to tune it up. I bought the kit and replaced it and now it work perfectly like before. The lady should have told me about the tune up rather than telling me to adjust my grind, I was going crazy trying to figure out what I did wrong. Btw , I had my oscar tune up after 6 months and I make about a cup or two a day .

Nuova Simonelli Oscar--Perfect fit

Good day, would this Nuova Simonelli Oscar/Musica Group head tune up kit work on the Simonelli Aurelia? I believe all the Simonelli group head sizes are the same? i am looking for (two)2 group head tune up kits for an older 2012 two head Aurelia. although i believe the Aurelia has 2 same diameter but different thickness gaskets? thanks.
