Espresso Machines With Large Water Reservoirs

FAQs
Check your machine’s manual for the refill method. Some reservoirs lift out for filling at the sink, while others have a top-access opening. Use fresh water that meets the manufacturer’s recommendations, follow the marked fill line, and fully reseat a removable tank before brewing.
Start each day of use with fresh water rather than repeatedly topping off older water. A large reservoir may hold more than you use in a day, so you don’t need to fill it completely every time. If the machine has been sitting unused, empty and rinse the reservoir before refilling.
Remove the reservoir if your machine allows it, then clean it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use mild detergent only if approved, and rinse thoroughly. Check whether a water filter needs to be removed first. Reservoir cleaning and internal descaling are separate maintenance tasks, so follow the recommended schedule for each.
First, check that the reservoir is fully seated and that its lid or handle isn’t preventing proper placement. If your tank has a visible water-level float, check for sticking according to the manual. If the alert remains, consult the manufacturer’s troubleshooting guidance before attempting further adjustments.
Reservoir-fed espresso machines draw water from a tank you refill manually, so they generally don’t need a permanent water connection. Some machines support both reservoir and direct-plumb operation. Check the machine’s specifications and setup instructions to confirm which options it supports.
