GREAT MACHINE, if you want simple!

What is not to like with the JURA E4! This machine is exactly what I wanted. Simple to use, simple to clean, water reservoir is easy to fill and so is coffee bean port. Purchased the piano white because it did not come in stainless or chrome and the black would just blend into my black kitchen counter cabinets.Love it. If I want foam, I have a nespresso aeroccino that's an easy clean up.

Yes, we're actually impressed with the coffee.

Very consistent quality and presence in the cup. Decided to eliminate the extra cleanup for milk products and get the coffee only model. It still seems like a good choice. Got a little Nespresso frother, the occasional indulgence, that gets thrown in the dishwasher.

I have owned two previous espresso coffee machines, and was disappointed in both: one from Saeco and one from Breville.I had used commercial espresso makers in Vienna and throughout Chech Republic, and really became fond of the simplicity.Jura comes the closest to those commercial makers I saw in Europe. I particularly liked the Jura4 as it ONLY makes coffee, no milk dispensers or frothing wands to clean.Yeah, Jura makers are pricy; but, I ended up paying more for the two lesser priced machines, and they didn't last a year each. Jura has identified and refined SIMPLE.

Does any hot water or hot coffee come in contact with plastic with this machine? Also, can the water reservoir be replaced with a glass reservoir? Or can a water “vase” sit inside the current plastic reservoir (e.g. I replaced my Ascaso Dream water reservoir with a glass vase and just slipped the straw inside of it so it was plastic free).

How much maintenance is involved?

Hello! The maintenance on a Jura expresso machine is similar to other super automatic espresso machines, although Jura does have convenient products available for cleaning and an easy to use cleaning program.Routine cleaning would include rinsing out the drip tray/puck container and wiping down the spouts. Most of the drip tray components are also machine washable.If using the Claris Smart water filter, filter replacement would also be included, but this prevents most of the need to be descaled (see below) About every 100-180 cups the machine will prompt you to perform a cleaning cycle with a small sun-like symbol that will appear. Using the 3-phase Jura Cleaning tablets, follow the instructions in the manual to ensure the procedure is followed, but it should take around 20 minutes, and is pretty much automatic once the cleaning tablet is put in the machine and set to clean. Descaling takes a little longer, and usually only happens about every 6-8 months, but if you're using the water filter the machine will not prompt you/need to be descaled. Using the 2-phase Descaling tablets, the procedure would be similar to the cleaning cycle but will take 45 minutes or so.
