Overview

Make the most of your Kitchen counter space with the LELIT Mara X Espresso Machine. A compact, uber-consistent heat exchanger that prioritizes espresso quality over everything else, the Mara X eschews traditional espresso machine wisdom to make some of the best espresso in its segment. Unlike traditional heat-exchange machines that set steam pressure directly at the boiler, the Mara X uses a second sensor at the group to target brew temperatures first. A physical toggle behind the drip tray lets you set from 3 temperatures (197, 201, or 205 degrees); while a switch on the side of the machine offers two selectable brew modes. For espresso, select 'Xmode Coffee' to get the best temp consistency for coffee-only drinks. Switch to 'Xmode steam' to increase steam pressure after brewing for better milk frothing. More than just a technical marvel, the Mara X features a bevy of barista-saving benefits too: silent pump design, long-ramp preinfusion, a dual pump and steam pressure gauge, optional standby mode, an ergonomic portafilter, and a custom-fit precision tamper right out of the box. Between its high-tech temp management and user-centric design, the Mara X makes an excellent coffee companion for any enthusiast.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the LELIT Mara X different from other heat exchangers?

The Mara X measures temperature at both the boiler and the group, so it prioritizes brew temperature instead of steam pressure — giving more consistent shots than typical E61 heat exchangers.

Can I adjust brew temperature on the Mara X?

Yes. A switch behind the drip tray sets 197°F, 201°F or 205°F. A side switch chooses Steam X mode (brew and steam) or Brew X mode (espresso-focused).

How big is the Mara X?

About 8.7 inches wide, 16.25 inches deep and 13.75 inches tall — one of the smallest prosumer machines.

What's the difference between the Mara X and Mara X3?

The Mara X3 adds 'Pagaia' flow control (a side paddle controlling pump power), a 1400W heating element and redesigned wood touchpoints.

Is the Mara X quiet?

Yes. A custom pump runs quieter than typical vibratory pumps and its long pressure ramp acts as a soft pre-infusion.

How long does it take to warm up?

About 20 minutes.

Lelit Mara X - The Sleeper Hit Nobody is Talking About

Okay, listen up. I paid $2k for this machine back in 2023 and I'd pay the same again tomorrow? but lucky for you, the price has only gone down. There is no machine on the market that nails both the look and the control of the Mara X. Period.Backstory: I spent a decade pre-kids driving an old La Pavoni manual lever machine like it was a vintage Ferrari, temperature-surfing my way to espresso bliss (almost) every morning. Then on a whim I bought the newly-released Diletta - loved the look, loved the price - but the honeymoon ended pretty quickly when I realized every shot tasted burnt and there was nothing I could do to cool things down. (Shoutout to SCG for the painless exchange.)The Mara X? Whole different universe. The fact that you can set your shot temp (197°F for city-roast hipsters like me) on a machine under $2K is mind-blowing. Lelit's engineers cracked the code: a heat-exchanger machine where you can dial in brew temp and still have legit steam power. It shouldn't be possible. Diletta recently released a heat-exchanger that has PID control, which is tempting at first glance, but if you want a low-temp shot you gonna be stuck with low-temp (aka weak) steam. The Mara X gives you that low temp espresso shot and then automatically ramps power for big powerful steam. This machine does not get the love it deserves in online reviews. People are sleeping on it, which is good for you because everyone coming along now gets a sweet deal.At the end of the day, an espresso machine (like a race car) is only as good as its driver. The Mara X gives me just enough control to make it fun, without ever giving me a headache. If you care about aesthetics and repeatability and you don't want to spend 5k on an espresso machine, stop shopping and get this thing.

A very well built machine that is working perfectly. I found Seattle coffee Gear, very professional and helpful in putting together a great package for me.

Not Reliable

When it works, it's great. Unfortunately, that's not often. My second machine within 5 months and the boiler just went out. I have very little that this machine will be more than junk after the warranty is up.

Liking the Lelit MaraX So Far!

I like the operation of the espresso machine so far! It is a single boiler system that acts like a double boiler and does well in both steaming milk and producing espresso. I have only had it for about a month.

Quit working less than a month after purchase.

Crushing experience

Machine arrived brand new and within about a week started making a high pitched vibrating, whining noise when warming up and pulling shots. Brought it back to SCG within the warranty window and the following were replaced- Control Board- Temperature probe- Vacuum braker- SSRSCG's takeaway was that it probably was a lemon/faulty machine and that happens sometimes, but the repairs should resolve the issue. At this point I was extremely disappointed with Lelit due to how expensive this machine is and how it was brand new lol. That took about 5 weeks total, then the machine came back and immediately started making the same noise exactly how it had before, then slightly worse. Had to drive it out again to the repair shop after reiterating what the issue was, sending videos again, etc. After another week of diagnosis, the takeaway was that the solenoid and safety valve needed to be replaced. I'm unsure why this wasn't found to begin wtih. It's been 3 weeks of waiting for the parts with an estimated 2 more weeks until it arrives. I'm on week 10 of the machine being gone. Not sure what else can be replaced at this point, so fingers crossed it is fixed when it returns. Even if it is and is pulling amazing shots, I cannot recommend this machine to anyone after going through this. I can't imagine how much it would suck if you weren't local to Seattle and had to ship the machine back and forth.Should've gotten a Rocket.

Sadly

Purchased the Mara X instore took it home unpacked it turned it on, it was faulty, took it back to store and ordered another to come from the warehouse, received it unboxed it, faulty, shipped it back waiting for refund. SCG responded good through the ordeal, but I would not buy another Mara X and based on my experience I would not consider another Lelit machine again nor would I suggest purchasing a Lelit to anyone. 2 faulty machines out of 2 is not a good track record and there are many more espresso machines to choose from.

Ian

Picked this machine up from the store got it home and it was faulty. Seriously not impressed had to take it back to the store cause for some reason it couldn't be shipped back, 4 hour round trip twice. And since I'm writing this review after I got the replacement which was also faulty has been returned.

Ian

This machine was faulty and has been returned it is also the replacement for the first one that was also faulty. Never again. SCG were good with the faults and replacement but they are not checking the products before shipping.

Spectacular

Absolute monster of a machine, pours a great espresso. We just recently first bought a breville in 2019 and the espressos are great! But this machine is an absolute game changer, I've had it for 1 day and I'm looking forward to wake up to it early in the morning tomorrow just for how amazing the whole experience for me is. I was blown away, one thing is to get it at a coffee shop, it's really incredible to have it in your home. Worth the investment, hopefully it keeps making us happy for years to come. Thank you Lelit for this one I really love this I was skeptical when purchasing but so happy I made the jump. For the price range I have no doubt that other machines are as good as this one in terms of flavor and quality. I chose lelit mara x for it's design and build which is something important for me. It's something you look at everyday and it makes me feel good inside. If you prefer convenience there may be better machines I guess? I think the lelit mara x is damn perfect

Moving up from a Breville Barista Pro

I bought the Mara X on Sale $340.00 US off, I wanted to get the Elizabeth dual boiler but out of stock everywhere and I haven't seen Lelit on sale before and wanted the Elizabeth because similar operation to the Breville Barista Pro (buttons) wasn't sure if I wanted the Mara X HX E61 machine, because I have read you need to do cooling flushes, temperature stability and the other problems that go with HX machine but I took a chance and bought a black one, very nice looking, I tell my wife it's my Ferrari 0 to 100mph in 4,7 sec. lol Only had my machine a few days and the first thing wife noticed espresso was hotter espresso, pulling some nice shots but still getting use to machine, This is my first E61 machine and I fine using it a lot of fun with a lever machine you seem more involved with the process versus just pushing buttons. The only thing I don't like is how much you have to turn the steam knob, first time I steamed didn't open it enough very little steam coming out and I thought what the heck, then open all the way and plenty of steam. Would be nice to have quick turn valve for steam or even better a joystick. I'm still getting use to steaming on the left side so use to doing it from right side I get my milk jug all backwards, lol On first impressions I would highly recommend the Mara X, especially on sale.

Waste of Money!

A wast of money?..should have purchased a Breville, however I did purchase direct from De'lonngi at third of the price of Lelit Mara x; its a marvel of engineering and out performs the my Lelit Mara EXPRESSO machine. The Lelit Mara is nice to look at however the mishmash of dials including on and off steam and hot water makes this machine cumbersome to operate?..the dials, unless one is ambidextrous, are difficult to read. The Lelit Mara x is like looking at a good locking blonde, however, a few dates, one discovers the relationship was a huge mistake! I only purchased the Lelit Mara from Seattle Coffee, because it was recommend as a favorite.

Lelit Mara X the HIgh Price for the Art of the Deal.

Actually my Lelit Mara takes too much time to heat up, Shots are so, so, and the streaming also is so so. I still have my Breville which is at least five years old and out performs my expensive Lelit Mara X EXPRESSO machine, plus it only takes about four minutes to reach temperature, my steaming wand takes seventeen seconds to foam my milk! So why did I purchase the the Lelit Mara x? Answer: I was induced by the beauty of the machine which has the appearance of being of a professional grade. Now Im stuck with a beauty that produces fair shots, but not comparable to my Breville.Remedy: I should have bought a new Brevile Bambino Or a De'Longhi Dedicated Maestor, this way I would enough money left over to purchase two or three years of coffee beans. When friends come over for a chat aka b.s. session, the first they say: What is that pointing to my Lelit Mara X? Well, I say, it's a piece of metal sculpture by Salvador Dali's, you know the person that stared in Midnight Paris. Oh!?.no kidding. No kidding.

Does it grind beans or do you have to use ground coffee ?

Jake B.

Hello, you will want to have ground coffee, the Mara X does not grind coffee. For Lelit models that do include a grinder, check out the Lelit Anita or Lelit Kate!
