Overview

The singularity is one step closer to reality with the Nuova Simonelli Oscar II. A fancy new chrome job and a deceptively simple two-button human interface makes pulling an espresso shot easier than ever. High-performance components from the original Oscar, like the heat-exchange boiler and 58mm group head, meld with an updated articulated steam arm and volumetric programming for fantastic microfoam and just-right extractions every time. Nuova Simonelli's signature steam pressure is readily apparent with the Oscar II's manual lever configuration that lets you regulate how much steam flows through its extra-long frothing arm. Even better, its retooled Cylon-esque design adds an aggressive, futuristic look to the machine.

Nightingale Review of Nuova Oscar II

It simplifies use compared to Oscar I (which about 15 years). Also easier to fill tank on newer machine. The lights are better so remember to turn off. Steaming wand with push lever is easier and more effective. Also nice to give a quick push before steaming to get rid of water in wand. Easier to keep clean. We love our new Nuova Simonelli Oscar II!! A lovely addition to our kitchen!!

Wish we never bought it

This machine gave us nothing but trouble. I had multiple techs come out they would fix whatever the issue was leave and within two days it wouldn?t function again. Do not purchase.

Just buy it already.

So this is my 1st ?real? espresso machine. I have to say it has surpassed all of my expectations. I didn?t mess around either and bought a Rocky doserless grinder to go with it. No more spending 1.5k a year at coffee shops. Had to have justification for the purchase ya know. I?ll just say that the coffee is amazing and is better IMHO at home.

Simonelli Oscar I and II

I had Simonelli Oscar I for a dozen years, thousands of espresso drinks, and it was great. After reading the comparison reviews, when Oscar I wore out I knew I had to have Oscar II. It too is wonderful, and the commercial grade boiler so powerful. It truly makes the best espressos/latte's that I can find in all of Minneapolis/St. Paul, right in our own home. In combination with the Simonelli Grinta grinder it creates perfect crema and taste every time. Finally, the new look, steam valve and stem, standby feature, faster warm up are all so nice. And thanks for the chat room time with tech about proper cleaning, etc. I look forward to another great dozen years with Oscar II.

It was a birthday present for my wife, and I chose this instead of the Breville. Initially she was not happy because she liked the Breville, which had lasted a long time. But after a few days of trying the Oscar, she was all smiles. Thanks to your review, I made the right choice.

Espresso is great. Steam wand an uncontrollable beast.

Everything is great. The steam wand is a monster. It will blow the ears off a donkey. It is very difficult to learn how to froth (keep it straight down, not at an angle). And it is extremely hot. The wand is scaldingly hot after only four or five seconds. If you froth for more than 10 seconds, the milk is undrinkably hot. Hope there is a way to reduce the steam wand temperature, but I haven’t found it yet. Other than that, I’m very happy. The quality of the espresso is superb.

Love it!

I bought this to replace the Saeco Aroma I had for 20 years. I love his machine for the great steam it produces and the fact that I don't have to wait b between steaming and pulling a shot.I have had it one year.

Great machine!

I upgraded to this recently from a Nespresso, and it's night and day. It takes a little bit to get used to it, but once you do, it will produce excellent espresso. Just make sure to pick up a good bean grinder as well if you don't have one already. I don't have an issue foaming milk, it's true that the wand is very powerful, but with good practice I can make decent foam in 10-15 seconds. My only cons:- Wish it came with a stainless steel tamp, it comes with a plastic one.- Comes only with a double spout, wish it came with a single one as well. Also since this machine takes 15-20 minutes to warm up, I suggest you get a Wemo Insight Smart Plug so you can turn it on with a phone or put it on a timer.

Outstanding quality for price

I previously had a rocket dual boiler and downsized to the oscar ii. Its a big change going from a dual boiler to a heat exchanger but I'm glad I did it. It's cheaper, heats up much more quickly, and easier to steam and pull shots at the same time. I think the steam is slightly more powerful than the rockets. It's a little cheaper exterior with all the plastic but the internals on this thing are solid. The only reason you might benefit (for a home machine) in spending more $$$ is if you need a quieter pump, this vibratory pump can be quite loud compared to the rotaries. Makes excellent espresso and steams with ease.

perfect for mobile barista bar use

We use this for mobile barista bar use and love it. It takes about 20 minutes to heat up, so we always bring 2 pots of hot water with us, so when we fill the water it only takes a few minutes. we also have the 2nd pot available for americanos, or refilling the unit if necessary

Needs fine tuning

I have an Oscar I that to this day is best machine made, Oscar Ii takes a lot of technique to foam properly.... much more difficult and overheats milk if your not careful. This can be overcome with manual control of steam wand and lots of practice. Espresso not nearly good enough I suspect poor temperature control. Disappointed but hopeful tech department can help.

As advertised

This is my first semi-auto, I've used a fully auto Gaggia Platinum for 5 years, so take it for what it is. I've had the Oscar 2 for 6 weeks, paired with a Eureka grinder. This machine looks nice and feels well-built. The steam wand puts out so much pressure that it's really tricky to get good foam before your milk is fully hot. But over time we've gotten pretty good with it. The more milk you are foaming the better it works - doing 2 cups at once is a breeze. We've looked into getting a different tip to make it easier but for now it's going fine. The espresso it makes seems good - it really reveals the quality and freshness of your beans. The drip tray, cup heater and reservoir all seem up to the task.Gripes? I wish it had an auto-off feature, like if nobody had touched it for an hour just turn off. That wouldn't be hard would it?Also the cleaning instructions are lacking. There is no mention of backflushing in the manual, and no backflush insert for the portafilter. This isn't a miracle machine that requires no backflushing is it?

Can someone explain how the standby mode works and how I turn it on?

The Oscar 2 direct connect... can I pull hot water for tea with this unit?

Chris W.

Not in a traditional sense as on a machine with a water dispenser, no. You could just place a cup under the group head with no portafilter, or with nothing in the portafilter and draw hot water but you'd risk getting some coffee flavor in your tea. For me that would work, but not for the tea afficianados that I know.

s
steven I.

i know someone mentioned that there is no recovery time. The warm up/steam time states 8:41; recommended to wait an extra 10-15 minutes. is that just the initial turn on warm up?

Chris W.

Just that, 20-30 minutes has worked well for me.
