Worth the investment if you enjoy great coffee

Needed a new coffee maker and decided to research and find one I would be happy with. Purchased this one suspecting maybe the hype was overdone, but thought I would make the investment and hope for the best. Seriously the best coffee I have ever had. It was brewed to perfection, strong and no bitter after taste. ( I did use 45 grams of freshly ground coffee for 24 ounces of water (pretty much the golden ratio). and I am very pleased with my purchase.

The best drip coffee maker you can buy!

After having used the Moccamaster many times in the past and researching drip coffee machines, there was no doubt I was going with the Moccamaster as my home drip machine. To me there is no comparison when it comes to quality parts, build and quality of brew. The top three reasons for getting it were the ability to make 8 cups of quality coffee at a time, being able to test different coffees without worrying about technique as a variable and having an efficient way of making coffee as opposed to manual method.

This thing is awesome! We had quit drinking coffee because of the plastics exposure! Finding this brewer has allowed us to move back to drinking coffee and feel good about it!

Nice simple quality machine - expensive, but likely be worth it

Nice simple machine. A bit pricey, hope it makes up for it in longevity. Craftsmanship and materials a great. Like other machines the carafe may merely be double wall but not insulated? Not sure, but like other machines the carafe doesn't seem to keep content hot as long as a proper vacuum carafe does - that is has kind of an open top will probably not help - it is not really open, there is a tube mechanism hydraulicly sealing most of the carafes content thermally without any spring or mechanical mechanisms, and while may not be a perfect seal like a cork might be, it works pretty good, insulates about as good as other coffee machines thermal carafes and results into not having to operate an opening mechanism and one can just pour, that's actually quite nice. Though the thumb operated one from my previous carafe was not bad neither - but it didn't hold the temperature any better. Temp retention is good enough for most cases - but again, not as good as a proper thermal container, but none of any the coffee machine I ever saw did. And I do own an Alfi plastic with glass thermos that fits right underneath as well, I can brew right into that if I wanted and need longer heat retention. Anyways, very quiet, carafe pours well, I like the microswitch that makes sure there's a carafe in place properly or it won't brew. My prev. machines didn't have such a switch and once or twice a year - being distracted - I managed to not place the carafe underneath properly resulting into flooding the counter. Can't happen with this machine, that's a valuable feature I find - if it saves me 12 cleanups over the next 10 years, that might be already worth the price... 12h of work and other damage avoided, when I tally that up, I'd say worth it. I can not tell whether the coffee is actually better than with my previous machine(s) - I could only tell with direct comparison as I switch coffees regularly and such, and such a test is not possible 4 me - the coffee is definitely not worse. I usually don't spend this much money on a coffee machine but feel I've got my money's worth and am very pleased. My prev machines always only lasted 5-8 years - and I do de-calcify routinely 2 times a year and my water is pretty soft. I'm hoping this one will last a little longer as it is claimed it is built with really quality components like a copper heating element and I really like it's simplicity and the one-handed pour without having to open and close a carafe closure, that all is nice. If it lasts, it was worth it!

Awesome drip coffee maker

This drip coffee maker does exactly what it claims, it is worth every penny and the best part?-it?s not made in China. Personally I also like the style.

Love this coffee maker

This is our second Moccamaster. We still have our first one purchased 10 years ago still going strong, but wanted a second smaller version to take on the road with us. This coffee maker continues to brew at the correct temperature and provides great results.

Good coffee, fiddley brewer

Most importantly, it brews a great cup of coffee even at 5 cups. The only downside is it’s a bit “fiddley” requiring you to remove multiple pieces to brew unlike the Bonavita. The other issue is the removable drip tray which really doesn’t attach to the brewer. If you move it around on your countertop you are likely to dislodge it every few days...but it does brew a consistent cup!

Happy purchase

The Moccamaster thermal coffeemaker brews great no frills coffee. I like that it heats up with copper tubing instead of stainless and is light weight and compact enough to slide in and out of a counter cupboard. We have used a coffee press for years and are glad to have stepped up to this European made machine.

Best Drip Machine

Great machine, modest improvements over sane great machine I bought years ago.

So far so good

I bought this maker to replace an old Bonavita that finally died. Some parts of the machine feel well built and robust, others are fairly thin plastic. The good news is that those thin plastic parts are all available via the company and are easy to replace. The machine is compact and fits under my lower than standard upper cabinets. The coffee it makes is quite good, with speedy brewing and the somewhat unique ability among makers of this type to shut off the brewing flow momentarily if the need for brew is urgent. We're going to need to run this for a few years to see how it does with my hard well water, descaling and daily use. But. like I said, so far so good

Consistently Excellent...and fast

What a great coffee maker - consistently excellent. I got tired of doing pour overs every morning, this delivers the same strong flavored coffee and it does the work for you. This is our second Technivorm and I will never buy another brand coffee maker, EVER.

The best coffee maker

This is my second Technivorm. I have had the old one for at least 10 years and had it refurbished once. This machine makes coffee hot the way it should and totally saturates the grounds. We moved the old one into the cabana as it still works perfectly. The thermos keeps the coffee piping hot and is convenient when we have guests.

It's worth the investment

I expected a lot from a coffee maker that cost as much as I've spent on coffee makers over the previous two decades. The Technivorm KBTS delivered. It brews an excellent cup of coffee quickly. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee at drinking temperature, so the last cup is as good as the first.

Get a $20 tea kettle and $15 cone filter holder instead.

This makes a great water heater, getting it to the right temperature for brewing. And doing it quickly. So, it gets two stars for doing that properly. Knock one star because it is the most expensive water heater on the planet. As a coffee maker it is a kludge. Let me count the ways. An important aspect of making good coffee is uniform saturation of grounds with water, like with a showerhead. But this unit dribbles one center stream of water, with a little bit to one side. It means that I have to go in tight a spoon and distribute the water evenly. Heck, I could do that with a $15 cone filter holder. Speaking of which, the cone filter holder is simply sitting in place, not fastened in place. Easy to knock over, which happens some times, making a mess. The carafe is nice, and by itself, it deserves 4 stars for its innovative pour cap and insulation. So, one star for value, 2 for heating water and 4 for the carafe. So, 2 overall.

Outstanding cup

I am very pleased at the quality of the coffee the Moccamaster KBTS produces. I roast my own beans with the Behmor 1600+ so I always have fresh beans. I use 45g of med corse. coffee with 750ml water. I use Transcend Coffees method from YouTube for a nice smooth strong cup.

Great Value

I bought mine almost 12 years ago and it works great still! I do not brew every day, but I could have bought three machines over this past 12 years and not enjoyed the coffee as much. Brews HOT coffee and the thermal jug keeps coffee hot for at least a couple of hours. Expensive, sure, but worth the money.

Disappointing

The Technivorm is sold as "all that" ... it's not all that. The water doesn't fully saturate the grounds. It takes manual intervention ... closing the basket and letting the water steep. (The mechanism to do this - the plastic on/off switch on the basket - is embarrassingly cheap.)After that - you still have to rotate the basket in order to evenly saturate the grounds. It may or may not be hot enough ... whether or not I cannot get a deep robust cup of coffee from the machine in spite of the manual interventions. The result is - an ok, not great cup of coffee. . A huge, costly disappointment.

Excellent Machine

This machine is amazing! I have never had coffee taste so good from a drip. It is simple to use, works as advertised, the coffee is hot, and extremely flavorful. No extra gadgets you don't need. It is designed to brew a quality cup of coffee which is why it has no timer to start a brew in the morning (stale grounds, bad water)It even makes grocery store coffee taste decent.I like how there are many parts that come apart, it makes it super easy to clean and if anything ever breaks you won't be spending 100+ on an entire assembly when only one small piece has broken.I use 60 grams for a full pot in this machine, close the filter basket for the first 15 seconds of brewing, then stir for 15 seconds. At the 30 second mark, open the basket all the way, stir for 10-20 seconds at 1.5 min and at the end. Then make sure the grounds are level when the water stops running, wait for the rest of the water to drip out, and enjoy! It takes 4.5-5 min to brew an entire pot, excellent machine, easy to use, great warranty, I really couldn't be happier! Some complain about the price tag, but at the end of the day with the warranty (rumors are Technivorm is going to raise it to 10 years from the current 5 years) it is well worth the price, especially with the companies reputation of long lasting coffee makers!Price 4/5 - I do think it could be a bit cheaper ~250.Value 5/5 - because of the warrantyQuality 5/5 - solid construction, quality meets retro design!A+ Technivorm!

Worth the money

After entirely too much online research I replaced my old Keuring with a new Moccamaster KBTS. No regrets. Quiet, quick, easy to clean, carafe keeps the coffee hot for the wife who wakes up an hour after me and last, but not least, brews a great cup of coffee every time.Worth the investment.

No regets!

After an embarassing amount of research, we decided to go for it and purchase the pricey Technivorm to replace an old Capresso machine. We started with a 10-cup glass carafe model from another retailer and quicky decided we are a Stainless Carafe family and also needed a coffee maker that could whip up a smaller batch of coffee that tasted equally good as a full pot - so the KBTS was our pick.We are not dissapointed! From the very first pot to several less-than full pot trials since it arrived a few weeks ago - the coffee is HOT, DELCIOUS and CONSISTENT every time. We are picky about temperature because I sometimes am pouring a second cup an hour or two after I brewed it - suprisingly this thermal carafe keeps it plenty hot for me (I had thought I may need to transfer to another double-walled glass lined carafe to keep it hot enough - but we've retired that extra carafe since the arrival of this pot.The folks at Seattle Coffee gear were super helpful in getting this item out to me from a store that had it in stock, answered several of my nerdy coffee questions and were a pleasure to deal with.

the short version is perfect

I had the taller version technivorm KBT741 for 4 years and used it every day. The house we bought has low hanging cabinets and my tall technivorm wouldn't fit under them. I recently bought this shorter version and it fits perfectly under my cabinets. I even sold my 4-year old one for $150, so they definitely hold their value.Though expensive, over time this coffee pot makes a reliable, stellar pot of coffee that pays off. I hardly ever buy coffee out, which makes this spendy purchase totally worthwhile. I love the design, simplicity, and quality. I can't recommend this coffee enough for stellar drip coffee.

Could a tall or short travel mug be used with this? I need both the carafe for larger batch brew but also need it to single cup occasionally (to avoid my wife getting a Keurig).

L
Lesley A.

I am so disappointed! Researching product and reviewers how it makes a hot cup of coffee. I preheat carafe and my cup with hot water while I feed cats, grind beans and prepare coffee pot. Yet I can drink it right away without delay. My Zojirushi pot made a hot hot cup and kept it that way in carafe for many hours. Is this normal?
