Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does the Breville Bambino Plus heat up?

About 16 seconds, thanks to Breville's thermocoil heating system.

Does the Bambino Plus steam milk automatically?

Yes. Its auto-frothing, temperature-sensing steam wand textures milk on its own for lattes or cappuccinos — set the temperature and texture and let it work.

What size portafilter does the Bambino Plus use?

54mm. Choose 54mm tampers, dosing funnels and puck screens. The Breville 54mm Portafilter fits the Bambino, Barista Express, Pro and Touch.

Do I need a grinder for the Bambino Plus?

You can start without one using the included pressurized baskets and pre-ground coffee, but a burr grinder that can grind for espresso unlocks much better shots. The Baratza Encore ESP is a popular pairing, and we sell them together as a bundle.

What comes in the box with the Bambino Plus?

A portafilter, single and double baskets (both pressurized and non-pressurized), a backflush insert, a tamper, a frothing pitcher, a razor dosing tool, a steam wand cleaning tool and descaling powder. It carries a 2-year Breville warranty.

Will a travel mug fit under the Bambino Plus?

Cups and mugs up to 5 inches tall fit under the Bambino Plus's low-profile portafilter.

I love this little guy!

Super happy with this purchase! The Bambino pairs great with the Baratza Encore ESP grinder for a lower imprint on our limited counter space. Once we dialed in the grind, it's been a workhorse cranking out delicious espressos! I look forward to it and have enjoyed it so much that my daily coffee intake has doubled! There is a learning curve though. If you're getting this combo, these settings are working well for us: grinder setting 17-18 with 18-19g of beans. There may be variation between beans, roast, etc, but we haven't had to change settings for various medium roasted beans, including decaf. After prepping the puck, it's just a matter of pushing a button!

Does not work as advertised

Warning for new home baristas about issues with Bambino Plus since it took me way too long to figure out the machine was the problem, not me. Check the temperature reading before the return window closes! If the Bambino Plus truly did everything as advertised, I would have loved this machine. In 2 months I went through 2 of these units and only managed 1 serviceable cup of coffee.I didn't figure out that the Bambino Plus was a lemon until a month after purchase. Breville replaced it with a new unit, which was also a lemon.1) I couldn't get the water temperature over 75C no matter how many blank shots I ran or how long I let the machine warm up. The Bambino Plus advertises 93C. With the replacement unit Breville sent me, I was able to get the temp up to 86C if I ran enough blank shots - like revving up the engine of a Porsche only to roll lazily into a lake. 2) the preset brew buttons don't work consistently. Sometimes water keeps flowing through the portafilter until I realize it isn't stopping and shut it down manually, toss the bad brew and start over with new beans. I've thrown out so many good beans brewed badly by Bambino Plus.I tried calling Breville customer support on a Friday at 2pm about this 2nd faulty unit they sent me and as of 2pm on Saturday I am still waiting in line for Breville customer support to call me back.Don't trust the glowing reviews. Do a quick online search for "Bambino Plus temperature issues" and you will see my experience echoed. Now I'm stuck with a $500 mediocre milk frother - the one thing the Bambino Plus does ok (not great, not consistent, but ok)

Barista approved!

I'm a barista by trade living in a tiny apartment. With an upgraded grinder and portafilter, this little machine is an absolute powerhouse! It's a great value and you can easily add on to your setup. Plus, it works well for small kitchens.

Bambino Plus is the bomb.

I love this machine for its ease of use, delicious espresso, it?s compactness, and its looks. The grinder is great too.I had a fully automatic Saeco and did not like it at all. Now it?s a pleasure making cappuccino not a chore.??

Great machine! I have it for almost 4 year and it was a great investment...saved a lot of money making delicious latte at home

Makes great lattes but not for anyone with no upper body strength!

This is a good machine and makes great lattes. The only problem I had initially was the porta filter was extremely difficult to get on and off and I almost returned it because of that. So I can’t recommend it too any older or weaker folks for that reason. I also dented the chrome plate taking the filter off and it flew out of my hands into the machine. Other then that it’s great and I’m happy I purchased it.

Sorry to hear that Meredith! The gaskets can definitely be tight initially, it should loosen up over time and I'm hope you're enjoying the lattes :)

Fantastic machine! Thoroughly impressed.

I love this espresso maker! It definitely takes some getting used to, and it takes time to really get it just right. But oh my goodness that automatic frother! Blessings from above. I’ve never been able to hit a microfoam just right, but the Breville Bambino does it precisely. One thing I will say – the Bambino is loud. Not as loud as a commercial espresso machine, but when you live in a shared space and you’re trying to make a cappuccino at 5am – yeah – it can be a bit cringy. But I would hands down recommend this machine to anyone who is tired of paying $4, $5 dollars for a cappuccino. It feels empowering to make barista-quality drinks as a fraction of the price! Plus, Seattle Coffee Gear has really great prices on their ground espresso. It’s so worth the investment to buy the Bambino.

Love all around

I love it. It's dangerously easy so be careful. I'm averaging 4 drinks a day. Best purchase I've made in recent memory.

After 40 years of homemade espresso this is by far my favorite machine! Kind-of glad my last one quit, now. I made adjustments in brew time to suit our likes and the steaming...OMG, the raving reviews were true. Hope it lasts a few years as we use this several times a day. There's nothing like a craft-taste latte first thing in the morning and this machine performs.

Nice machine

I mostly like it. Makes good espresso. Needs sticky feet or something. It's so light you have to hold it down and my daughter has more of a hard time.

Could not be more happy with a purchase! I give it a 95% - I explain the rating in my description

I spent 3 months reviewing espresso machines to find what would work best for us. And when I say reviewed...I mean everything up to our budget of $1,200! I finally settled on the Bambino Plus and we are ecstatic with how it works and the quality of the espresso/cappuccino pulled. It is simple, fast heating and perfect for us. I paired it with the DF54 V3 grinder with which I am also extremely pleased. I did make an upgrade to the tamper but other than that it works to perfection. If there was something I would change, it would be the tamper and the plastic tray. I would have spent more for this machine to have a stainless tray and heavy quality tamper. The quality rating would then be 100%.

The gasket that the porta filter makes contact with is way too stiff. You almost need some else to hold the machine so you can the porta filter on and off. I also have to grind my sumatra whole beans almost into a powder to get any crema. That's with a Virtuoso burr grinder. None of tnis was exposed in the video.

Decent for the average home user

Downsizing from a commercial grade Rancilio Epoca I'm a bit disappointed in the Bambino Plus. It's fine for what it is, but lacks the oomph that let me get really creative with my beverages. I think most users would be very happy with it after reading the manual and customizing the settings and grind to match their personal preferences. And to be fair, the documentation is excellent.

I'm not a pro but can make some good espresso drinks

We have really enjoyed the bambino plus as our first espresso machine. The machine high quality machine for the price and is capable of making great shots. With that said, we are new to espresso, there are many steps involved in the process that impact how the shots taste. I can make great tasting latte's, mochas and cappuccinos, but my espresso shot taste is not always perfect. Pulling shots is not hard exactly, but it does take practice. The bambino plus does its part for sure, but be prepared to work at it a bit, it isn't as simple as just pushing a button and hitting a home run right of the bat.

Bambino Plus fail

Purchased in May 2025, worked flawlessly for nearly 3 months. Then the cleaning cycle indicator came on, so I followed the manufacturer instructions for the cleaning cycle, except the machine behaved as though it still needed to be cleaned. After a week of chat bot emails back and forth Breville informed me that I needed to return the machine to them for repair. Between shipping and the repair that's roughly 3 weeks, which for a 3 month old machine seems, I don't know, frustrating? SGC was no help, go through Breville was their reply. 1 star reflects my customer service experience and the early failure. Otherwise this has been one of the bast bang for your buck purchases I've made in a long time. I would expect better from both SGC and Breville for a machine that performed as designed for only 3 months. I should add that the machine continues to produce great, reliable espresso.

Don't like the milk brother at all. Wish it had a pressure gauge. Often the espresso comes out only one of the two holes in the filter Far preferred the Solis Perfecta

Made my first latte and was very pleased.
This was a replacement for my Solis espresso machine and I couldn’t be more pleased with the breville bambino plus.

Five stars until it no longer worked

Five stars for 2.5 years, and then it died. We loved this machine and are so sad it's no longer working. Steaming wand makes perfectly steamed milk, with the ability to adjust temperature and foam amount. We love good coffee, but don't know much about espresso machines. This requires no learning or extra thought. And a perfect shot pulled every single time. The small footprint is another thing to love. We got a lot of use out of it in 2.5 years. Definitely worth it!

Mornings with Bambino

Loving the Breville Bambino Plus! It warms up quickly and very easy to use. It took me a while to get the grind and tamping just right, but I haven't made a "bad" shot yet. And the only "bug" I have is when making a double shot, one side seems to lag a bit. This could be related to the grind, tamping or counter top. Overall, I'm getting espresso that is up to my standards. After buying a Saeco Via Venezia from Seattle Coffee Gear 12 years ago, I thought it wise to buy from them again. I'm using a Baratza grinder with my Bambino.

Love it!

I would recommend this product. It makes great espresso and foamed milk at a reasonable price.

From Saeco Aroma to Breville Bambino Plus

Our 16 year old Saeco Aroma began to be weak in the brewing cycle and flavor began to fade. This is a perfect replacement with it's semi-auto modes and excellent milk frothing. To turn on/off the machine the simultaneous pushing of the first and third buttons at a specific duration is a bit problematic at times. Otherwise this machine is fast and works great!

Small but mighty machine

The little machine surprised me. I love it. Took no time to get my perfect dose and time for my daily cappuccino.

Too small for tight handle

I had a look at this but there is one deal killer for me: the basket handle is very tight, so you have to crank it hard to lock it - which would not be an issue on it's own, but the machine footprint is so small that locking the handle moves the machine all over the place. I kind of feel like it needs to be bolted to the table top.
