New Silvia Pro X has phenomenal performance

I upgraded to the Rancilio Silvia Pro X from an original style Rancilio Silvia machine (mfg. 2009) which I bought used and have been using for over 5 years. The new Silvia Pro X is a massive performance upgrade! The dual PID controlled boilers have made dialing in a shot much more precise than temp surfing with the old Silvia could ever have done. And the steaming capability of the Pro X is night-and-day better than the old Silvia. I no longer have to wait for the old single boiler machine to get up to steam temp. So, pulling the shot and steaming the milk has gone from a roughly five minute process down to less than a minute if I have everything ready. It's astounding. The only issue I had with the Pro X was the low water alert (H2O) coming on too soon when the reservoir was still over half full. So, I reseated the pressure sensing tube in the reservoir and that seems to have fixed the issue. I purchased the Silvia Pro X as a part of a Seattle Coffee Gear bundle deal which included a Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder (the SCG deal discount helped me make up my mind). The new grinder is also a notable upgrade to the Eureka Silenzio I had been using. The Specialita has bigger burrs delivering the same volume of grounds more quickly and it has much better grind timing controls which gives me precisely the dose I need every time. I normally make both my wife and myself two lattes every morning. So, the new grinder and the Pro X have made the daily routine much simpler and faster. And at the same it has significantly improved the quality of the drinks. We honestly can taste the difference. I've always liked the clean, understated design of the Rancilio Silvia machines and I've been eyeing the Pro X for a couple of years. I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger on it. Seattle Coffee Gear shipped my machines very quickly after I placed my order.

Miss Silvia is quite the catch

I am so pleased with my Rancilio, only issue was a water leak at a hose clamp repaired under warranty. I have no issues with maintenance or operation as others have whined about. I roast my own coffee and and purchased a Rocky grinder, I am so pleased with my espresso shots. It is rare to find a coffee shop that can pull as good of a shot. I have owned my machine for 4 years.

In love with Rancillio!

As a brand new beginner in the espresso world, I am in love with the white Rancillio Silva Pro X. Yes...it is a learning curve but on my 3rd shot of espresso....it was nearly darn good! I love the fact that it is built like a tank and I know this machine will last me very long time as long as I take good care of it. I am grateful for those suggested that I buy this model. For those newbies....don't be afraid to take a chance on this espresso machine! Educate yourself, watch many helpful videos and ask questions and you will not feel intimidated. Once you get the hang of it...it gets easier from there!

Great Machine for Home Use

I am very happy with this machine. It is solid, fairly compact, and most importantly, makes great espresso! Some pros and cons based on my experience so far. Pros-Fairly quick heat up time. The brewer heats up quick, but if you want milk or hot water, give it a little extra time-Very powerful steam wand and milk comes out really smooth (takes some time to learn)-The switches are very satisfying to press! I was worried going into this as I prefer knobs over switches.-Nice, large cup warmer stores your whole collection of mugs-Provided portafilter and tamp are solidCons/Things to consider-The water tank placement can be annoying if you have it under a cabinet. -The hot water dispenser is a bit frustrating. Since it uses the same boiler as the steam, it starts to pour but then sputters out after a few seconds, which can cause some splashing and water getting on the machine. I don't know how other machines are compared to this.OverallEvery machine has it's pros and cons. I was considering other machines from Profitec but chose this primarily due to price and the smaller footprint. Overall very happy with and would recommend.

Great so far

I decided to pull the trigger on the SPX after the control board on my 8 year appartamento failed. Thing I like:- Dual boiler- PID- Steaming milk is very fast- Pre infusion/ soft infusion seems to really help with the quality of the shots- Shorter warm-up (both coffee and steam), especially compared to the appartamento.- Brew pressure set at 9 bar from factory, unlike the appartamento- Overall built qualityThings that would need improvement:- Drip tray is terrible, as others have commented- Non insulated steam wand. Not that big of a deal, but milk can harden rally fast if not cleaned relatively fast- Pump pressure gauge seems like an after thought. It's hard to read.

slightly damaged

Pros: machine works as expected and double boiler has sped up my workflow Cons: the front of my machine had multiple "dimples" in the stainless below the group head. Doesn't impact function, but I would consider it damaged on arrival.

Nothing beats the Rancilio Silvia Pro X in its price bracket!

I would do it all over again by choosing to go with the Rancilio Silvia Pro X. From dual boiler, PID controller, powerful steam power and everything inbetween, it's a decision I feel is well worth it and would more than recommend it!

A fantastic machine, when it works

We have had nothing but problems with the Rancilio Silvia Pro X. We have had this machine replaced three times, and now six months after the most recent replacement we have another problem. I wish I had returned this machine when I could. After about a month of use the machine began to malfunction as can be seen in the attached video. The temperature reading on the PID would fluctuate from a very low number to a higher number immediately, and back to a low number. The other occasions where the machine failed it simply would not turn on. Now six months later, the hot water dispenser drips continuously when the steam boiler is on.When this machine works, it was a very nice machine. The espresso it makes is consistent, and having a dual boiler at this price point is great.

Rancillio, built to last.

These machines are great. My retired "Miss Silvia" was in my kitchen for 17 years, and still working great. A few upgrades and parts replacements over the years, but these machines are solidly constructed and easy to work on. I bought the Pro X just as an upgrade. I like the double boilers and automated features. Makes the morning process a little smoother and enjoyable. If you want something that is built to last, you want Rancillio.

Great Performing Machine at a reasonable price

I researched and reviewed the Silvia Pro X heavily before deciding to purchase. At this price range there are lots of great options but I settled on the Rancilio for a few reasons. One, it has a duo boiler which is great to making espressos and forthing milk at the same time. Two, the black and stainless steel just looks great, very manly and easy to keep clean. Im not a big fan of having chrome all over my espresso machine. Just seems like it would be a nightmare to keep clean. The last big reason is because I see Rancillio in my local coffee shops so I wanted something that was tested in the the market that wont break the bank like a La Morzocco Linea Mini or break down on me after 6 months or a year. You also have the Appartamento at this price range but of course it has chrome everywhere. The Silvia X Pro works like a dream. It puts out amazing espressos consistently. The pressure is consistent as well as the temperature. The ease of use is great as well. No levers just easy, snappy buttons that work and have a satisfying click to them. The water reservoir is large enough to last through out my day without having to refill it. While doing my research some videos on Youtube highlighted a fews cons on this machine that I feel are over inflated. One of which is the drip tray. All the review videos I watched complained about how small it is and the fact that you have to tilt the tray to remove it. If you allow it to fill up with water, yes, you will cause a mess but after one day of heavy use, I find that its no where near full and easy to remove without spilling water. You should be emptying this tray daily any ways. The second con most pointed out was the time it takes for the steam boiler to start up. This is kinda of true. If I turn on my espresso machine and the steam at the same time, youll be ready to make an espresso before you are ready to froth. Its not much of an issue to me personally because once its up and ready, its a very good milk frothing wand that comes with the Silvia. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and look forward to many great home espressos for years to come and would definitely recommend it to anyone that asks.

Great prosumer machine

I upgraded from Solis Barista Perfetta which was also bought from SCG two years ago. Sylvia Pro X can brew way better espresso than the Solis and has much much more steaming power. This machine is simple and easy to use, and at the same time, it provides all the features I need, like the pressure gauge, the dual PID, the shot timer, and fast heat up time. The brew boiler can reach 200F in just 3 minutes and the steaming boiler can heat up in 10-11 minutes. No machine is perfect. There are few well-known negative comments about this machine. One is about the uninsulated steam wand. For me, it's not a deal-breaker. I just need to grab the black rubber part of the steam wand and that's it. The other one is the shallow drip tray which has to be removed at an angle. I was a little bit worried about it before I purchased it. But after using the machine for over a week, I don't think it's an issue. I make 2-3 cups of latte every day, and after a week of use, the drip tray is still pretty empty (see attached photo). Overall, this is a great machine for making great coffee. It's not like those shiny stainless steel machines. The low-key industrial look of this machine makes it quite unique among all the prosumer machines. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5. The first machine I received had a leakage issue. I took it back to the SCG store and got a new one back with no issue. The service of SCG is terrific. But the quality control of Rancilio can be improved.

This machine worked for exactly 10 seconds and didn't turn on again, I don't know what's wrong, but I didn't expect this from a brand new, famous Rancilio coffee machine.

We purchased the Rancillo Pro X. I like to warm my coffee cup before I make my coffee, and the first day the steamer and water spout worked perfectly, but now I can't get steam or water out of either one. The water tank is full, so what is the problem? The coffee function works fine. Thank you! Hilary
