Key Features

  • Programmable Dosing - Dial in and save three grind times for unbeatably consistent single shots, double shots or drip coffee.
  • Adjustable Holder Arms - Curved, rubber coated arms are designed to hold on to portafilters, containers and brew baskets alike for less mess from every grind. A newly redesigned portafilter hook offers a stable base for multiple portafilter sizes.
  • Dual-adjust Settings - Stepped macro grind settings make it a cinch to get in the ballpark for espresso shots or immersion brewing. A stepless micro adjust dial then lets you get to the perfect grind consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does grind adjustment work on the Baratza Sette 270?

The Sette 270 combines stepped macro settings to get you in the right range with a stepless micro-adjust dial for fine-tuning espresso — fast to dial in without wasting beans.

Can the Sette 270 grind straight into my portafilter?

Yes. Its adjustable, rubber-coated holder arms hold portafilters, containers or brew baskets, and the redesigned hook supports multiple portafilter sizes.

Can I program doses on the Sette 270?

Yes. Save three timed doses (up to 60 seconds) — for example single shot, double shot and drip.

Is the Sette 270 low retention?

Yes. Its drop-through design sends grounds straight down from the burrs, keeping retention low, and the burrs drop out for cleaning without tools.

Is the Sette 270 good for drip coffee?

The Sette 270 is optimized for espresso. It can grind for some brew methods, but for regular drip or pour over an all-purpose grinder like the Encore ESP or a brew grinder is a better fit.

What's the warranty on the Sette 270?

1 year from Baratza, which handles repairs and replacement parts directly.

Excellent grinder for the money.

The 270 has been a good addition to our espresso workflow. It is loud, but that was expected. Easy to dial in the grind, but have found some dosing inconsistencies between different roasts. At the price point I'd be hard pressed to not recommend this grinder.

Espresso Perfection!

I bought a Barista Infuser used at a very good price, but the espresso was not good. At first, I thought the Infuser was broken. I went to two different coffee shops and asked them to grind the coffee for espresso, and neither one worked. No matter how much coffee I put in the portafilter and no matter how hard I tamped it, I barely got any pressure, even with the double-walled portafilters. The Sette fixed all of that. I can draw shots that are pure crema, with amazing flavor. I use the scale to weigh 17.5 grams of beans and grind that straight through, giving me about 17 grams. (0.1 grams is a coffee bean, for perspective). Then I put the ground beans into my portafilter using a dosing funnel, and I tamp it using a dosing tool. This gives me very consistent results every time. After pre-heating my cup, I deliver 34 grams of espresso into my cup and add milk. Over time, I expect to make two major changes:First, I will fill the bean hopper and use the timer to deliver the ground coffee. This will save me the step of using the scale. Second, I will program the espresso machine’s time as well, so I won’t need a scale and timer for that step, either. With the 270w, I can go straight to delivery of weighed ground coffee, which would be very worthwhile. Outside my budget, but worthwhile. My only complaint is the adjustment arms are good, but there is no height adjustment so I cannot use it with my dosing funnel attached. So I grind into the included bin and pour into the portafilter. This isn’t a big deal but it’s an extra step. Basically... no, there’s nothing wrong with this grinder, and my complaint is pretty minimal. The bottom line is that this machine lets me brew fantastic espresso.

Fluffy grind every time!

I would highly recommend this. I have a Breville Smart Grinder Pro, which I loved. But for espresso, this is so much easier. Grind is very constant and easy to dial in.

Awesome grinder! Easy to use, precise grind, compact, and less messy than other grinders.

My Baratza Encore was giving me trouble after about 5 years, and I decided to upgrade. I’m so incredibly happy with my decision, and I’m able to pull much better shots now!

Good grind but maintenance not easy

It does an adequate job grinding, however taking apart to clean and put back together is not particularly easy. If the grinding mechanism is not inserted, just right, it will not function so you have to mess around with it to get it to grind again once it's been taken apart. Beans often get stuck in the hopper and will not fall into the grinder.

Almost no retention, straight through design easy to adjust grind and easy to clean works for my ...

I do not do Espresso. I make drip coffee with Technivorm Moccamaster KBG Select. It took a few pots to dial this in for the coarser grind needed. I bought this because of the straight through passage of grounds into the grounds cup and ease of cleaning. I change beans and grinders every day. So I clean this unit every day right after use while the coffee is brewing. I watched the cleaning instructions on Baratza's home page before I bought it and before my first cleaning. It has almost no retention of grounds and is easy to clean. This would be 5 stars for all of the above except as other reviewers have noted it has some fragile but replaceable parts. I am very careful with my grinders but a crack in the base of the bean hopper showed up and started growing after a couple of months of every other day grinding of 71 grams of beans (a variety). I submitted photo and described issue Baratza online contact form and they got back to me and sent me a new hopper no charge.

Good machine

Works great so far. Wish there was a slightly shorter bean hopper so it would slide under my counter as I weigh out beans to grind single dose anyway.

Easy to Use Great Grinder

I purchased this grinder specifically to handle a variety of flavored coffee beans, and it's been great for that purpose. Cleaning between different flavors is quick and easy, which is exactly what I needed. In terms of noise, it's slightly louder than the built?in grinder on my barista machine, but it's far from bothersome-noticeable, yet not disruptive. The grind quality has been consistently reliable from one batch to the next. For espresso, I run my set grinder at 11B, and with that setting, it produces a rich shot topped with excellent crema. The grinder has no trouble delivering a uniform grind that my machine clearly appreciates.

Best grinder I've ever used. Grounds drop directly into the portafilter which rests on an adjustable stand. Very fast.

Great grinder with room for improvement

The grinder works great overall. While it is a bit louder than most, it is also very quick. There are two things that could be improved. First, while the coffee bean container is large, it is very light plastic and I would have expected something more durable. Second, it does spray coffee grounds outside of the portafilter which requires a bit of clean-up after each use.

Definitely one of the best of the market, for its price range. Always accurate and consistent

Use Shim for dark roast

I usually prefer Dark Roast, initially I used to get 9 bars of pressure then suddenly it wouldn't go more than 4, then after doing lots of research and dialing in I found out that for finer grind size use shims. I even tried 1A which is like the finest size available, I was not able to get more than 4 bar of pressure. After using shims I can finally have some peace and better extraction.

Easy to work on.

I've had this grinder for at least ten years. Besides a great grind for my Rocket Espresso, it is easy to replace the burr and well as the motor. I was really happy with that DYI repair/upgrade.

Dials in perfectly thakes up very little counter space and looks cool love it !!

Baratza Sette 270 Grinder

DO NOT BUY THIS GRINDER if you want to use it to switch between different types of grind. I have been using this grinder multiple times a week, switching between grinds probably about once a week for just under 2 years. My family and I started started having intestinal issues and noticing that our coffee tasted burnt. We assumed it was the coffee beans but after trying other beans, the same issues were happening. When I took the grinder apart to clean it, I noticed that little micro strips of plastic were coming off the casing when I used my nail to scrape off the coffee residue. If you plan to only use it on one grind, then probably not a problem. Or if you want to switch grinds, I wouldn't plan to use it for more than a year. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that this could possibly be the cause of other intestinal issues I've been having for past 9 months! Scary!

Baratza Settte 270 Review

It's been a pretty solid grinder after a tough start. I bought it when they first came out, and there was an issue with the gearbox. It was replaced under warranty at no charge and has been solid ever since then. Programable grinds and times make it quite convenient for both coffee and expresso. Need a little experimentation to find the right combo for your taste, but after that, it's locked in. You save several settings, so you can accommodate people with different tastes or making different drinks. It is a bit loud.

Great gift!

It was a gift and the recipients were very excited when they received it. So far, no complaints. They loved that it was programmable and several other features, which I can't remember.

Nice but not quite as good as expected

Easy to set-up, program and operate. I like the size, doesn't take much counter space. I found it a bit frustrating that it is clearly designed to be an espresso grinder yet needed to be be taken apart and have a shim inserted to grind fine enough for espresso. I was also hoping for a slightly better work flow. Assumed that by finely tuning the time to grind I would get a consistent output weight. But in practice, the weight varies enough to require a weight in for each grind.

Awesome grinder

I needed a better grinder after moving on from the Breville Barista Pro and it's built in (lousy) grinder to a manual Flair P58 machine. Since it wasn't too long after I moved on from a Saeco superauto to Breville and was not sure whether I would have the time or the patience to use a manual machine - so did not want to invest into a more expensive grinder. Right away, I recognized that my shots were pulling too quickly, and added a shim for a much finer grind needed for the p58. My shots now are on par with a much more expensive La Marzocco commercial machine used by a local coffee shop. Very happy with my setup, and the grinder does need to be dialed in for different roasts but it is very easy to do so. I replaced the hopper with a single doser-and-billows kit from Alibaba, making it a zero-retention grinder. That aside, I HIGHLY recommend trying a manual machine - you control the flow/pressure with your hand, the machine has a MUCH smaller footprint than a traditional espresso machine and you can travel with it very easily. All that is missing is the milk frother, which you can replace with a manual frother and the results are very similar to a boiler-produced froth.

Great grinder but Inconsistent

Love the grinder cause it's way better than my old Breville I had But I have a couple issues with this one which I thought I'd never have after paying up for a better quality grinder. First thing I noticed within a week is that it's very inconsistent on the timed?.. right when you think you got it dialed in for your dose weight I'll pull my next dose weight and it'll be either too heavy or too light so I'm ALWAYS having to add or take some out before tamping. My second issue is I'm bottomed out on grinding FINE? currently on 1H and evening after tamping it as hard as I can my shots are pulling too quickly. I saw a video though about shimming the grinder so I order some in hopes in resolving this issue.

Perfect First Grindee

This was my first espresso grinder and it really is amazing! I think my only complaint is the adjustable arms that hold the portafilter or cup; I wish they were easier to adjust and even more adjustable.

Love the grinder, dislike Seattle CoffeeGear

This grinder is awesome! It has many different levels of grind, allowing me to fine tune my espresso beans.I very much dislike Seattle Coffee Gear though. I had questions prior to buying and emailed them. No answer. I emailed them again. No answer. I responded to their survey with concerns. No answer. So, why buy from them if they're not going to support your expensive purchases?
