My End Game Grinder.

As a relative newcomer to the world of espresso I've learned a couple of important lessons on the way to my end game setup.1. You can spend a lot of money graduating up the ladder from entry level equipment to equipment that is capable of replicating, at home, the same or better espresso than you are getting at your favorite cafe.2. Once you reach a certain price/quality point things begin to level out and the equipment is no longer a limiting factor. Beyond that, it just becomes a case of personal preference. The Eureka Oro Mignon XL from Seattle Coffee Gear, while far from the most expensive prosumer grinder out there, sits in that top tier of high-quality grinders that do it all. Best advice I got for using it. . . dial it in, clean it out when needed, and just use it. It's fun and easy, produces excellent, fluffy results every time, and it's great to look at. I often check out other grinders costing 2 to 3 times more and wouldn't trade my XL for any of them.

THE XL: A REAL END-GAME GRINDER

Let's get the two negatives out of the way first.1.The hopper. It works great, but looks cheap. Judging from other reviews this is a universal complaint.2.The grind size dial. While it does show which direction to turn the knob for fine or coarse grind, there is no visual way to see exactly where your grind setting is to make it easier to change back and forth between established settings. There are easy fixes to both issues (see photos).I read a ton of reviews complaining of clogging issues with this grinder (the Oro Mignon XL) and I experienced the same problem. I discovered I was grinding way too fine. Once I dialed in the correct grind size the clogging issues disappeared. From dry to oily beans, light to dark roasts, everything is precise and on the mark. The timer works great, I love the larger 65mm flat burrs, and the grinder is a pleasure to use. From a hopper full of beans to a single dose, the XL does it all. The retention is a couple of tenths of a gram which I compensate for in my single dose input.I now understand the thinking behind the importance of a good grinder in your espresso journey. The XL is a perfect partner for my Lelit Bianca, and a real end-game investment.

A serious upgrade

I bought this yesterday in person from SCG (Lynnwood, WA) as an upgrade to the Breville Smart Grinder Pro, quickly outgrowing the Breville grinder. I was having difficulty getting larger beans with the Breville grinder to the right size to get good flavor, and some dedicated espresso roasts were also troublesome in not getting a small enough grind size and I was under-extracting everything. Not anymore with the Eureka Oro Mignon XL! I finally understood what it means to grind too fine with this machine, and it made the dialing in process a more adventurous and rewarding experience. I was deciding between this and the Specialita; if you are an enthusiast that likes to experiment a LOT, have this grinder along with the single dose hopper and hours will fly by without you realizing it. If you are more of a casual drinker, this may be a bit overkill. That stated, this grinder made somewhat lowly Starbucks beans quite good and brought the best out of them. Specialty beans were even better than before (to which the Breville grinder did a pretty good job already). It is true that having a good grinder makes a huge difference, and this will not disappoint!

Dose the job with excellence .

Side power button isn?t fully clipped in. But besides that dose the job well.

Have had this now for about a month. Really like it. Quiet and fast. Grind is very consistent. I don't need a funnel as the grind flows very neatly into the portafilter with minimum mess. I decided not to use the included mat. It acts as a magnet for stray grinds and isn't easy to clean up. The hopper is cheap. It looks nice but it could be improved. For the price of the grinder, the manufacturer should fix this and send out replacements. Other than the hopper, I wouldn't change a thing and hope to use this grinder for many years.

Good investment

My only gripe with this machine is that sooner or later you're going to have to disassemble it it to actually do a good cleaning, cleaning tablets will only give you 2 or 3 grinds before getting backed up again

Oro?, not sure

I purchased the Eureka Mignon Oro XL about a month ago. At first, I was very impressed-the grinder has a beautiful design and operates very quietly, which makes it great for home use. However, after using it daily (just a few coffees per day), I've become increasingly disappointed with its performance. The biggest issue is inconsistent dosing. The grinder does not seem to deliver the same amount reliably, which makes dialing in espresso more difficult than it should be.More concerning is that the chute frequently gets clogged. There are times when no coffee comes out at all, and I have to stop everything to try to clear the blockage. This isn't a quick fix-it can take up to 30 minutes to unclog the chute without fully disassembling the machine. It seems like the chute only stays clear for a limited number of grinds before the problem happens again. For a grinder in this price range, and especially for light home use, this is very frustrating and not what I expected.Overall, while the grinder looks great and runs quietly, the ongoing clogging issues and inconsistent dosing make it difficult to recommend.

Excellent Grinder

Amazing grinder that works perfectly every time! It helps to make dialing in my espresso beans customizable by taking the guesswork away. I know that this grinder will provide an exact grind each and every time- Also- Seattle Coffee Gear made this all possible and stands by their customer service!

Fast, consistent, negligible retention.

This grinder is SOLID. I used to put my old one in the cabinet after each use, but this thing is an absolute unit, it will have to stay on the counter. The noise is only slightly quiter than a Breville Smart Grinder. Decibel level is a hard thing to measure and experience through videos. The grind quality is supreme! The stepless settings really do make a difference. I upgrade to the single dose hopper kit, which let me truly see that this machine has 0.2 g of retention or less, oftentimes its zero. Amazing!

The machine worked great for approximately two weeks and then stop grinding, but the motor still runs. I have another eureka machine that's worked fine for two years.

Excellent.

I'm quite pleased with functionality of this grinder. After about a week the activate switch broke on the first unit I received. Seattle Coffee Gear send me a replacement which has worked perfectly. Customer service was quick and easy to work with and at no cost to me a replacement was quickly delivered. I had saved the original box which made shipping the broken unit back much easier. This did give me a chance to learn how to clean the burrs and the insides of the unit before returning it. The unit was easily taken apart to clean.

Great grinder - love it

Really glad I chose this grinder, the height was one main point to fit under my cabinet. Easy to use and adjust. I would recommend to anyone.

Coming from a Vario, this Mignon XL is amazing. Had no idea a grinder could really make such a difference. Less mess, far less waste, extremely quiet. Easier to dial in and far more consistent across all bean types. Worth every penny. If you have room I’d recommend the atom 65. But if you looking to put it under a cabinet like me, this unit would be hard to beat.

Great grinder, when they say they great coffee starts with the grinder, now I know why after using the Oro Mignon XL. Small enough to fit under my cabinet station.

Does the job well

It is quiet and consistent, little grounds left which I really like. Adjusting is still a challenge for me. I just have to get used to wasting some beans to make a minor adjustment as it must be running while adjusting the grind fineness. I've managed to have it jam numerous times and I'm sure it's my fault, not the machine's.

Workhorse

I must admit I have a preference for Eureka grinders. I love the Atom but it is not apartment size. When I moved into an apartment I had to make some changes. I was pleased to see the Oro Mignon XL. It is a compact workhorse which incorporates the best design features of the Atom. I am very happy with this grinder.

The most flexible grinder!

My wife and I are both coffee snobs. My wife like stove top Espresso (Moka pot) and I like Cappuccino in the morning, and Espresso in the afternoon. This grinder is so flexible. I can dial in my grind for my Wife's Moka pours and then again for my Espresso shots. I like this machine so much, I ordered a 2nd one for our holiday home..

Very well made grinder and very quick I have to customize with single doses hopper but I love the one from stop but trying to keep the coffe fresh fast shipping I love this item

I can taste the difference in my espresso. I was using a Baratsa Vario for all coffee. I purchased the Eureka Oro Mignon XL 65mm Flat Burr specifically for espresso.

J

Great? With caveats

I ?graduated? from a Eureka Mignon Specialita to the XL, and my espresso shots immediately improved in flavor depth and nuance. The grind control of the XL is infinitely easier to use and is capable of very fine adjustments, superior to that of the Specialita. I only gave the XL four stars because, contrary to Eureka?s claims, it retains grinds like nothing I?ve ever seen. It?s also still prone to clogging, just like the Specialita, so it requires biweekly deep cleaning.Still, I don?t regret the purchase and I highly recommend it. It?s a way to get the benefits of the Atom 65 within a manageable footprint.

Will the grind catch bin work with this model?EUREKA MIGNON GROUNDS CATCH BIN - CLEAR

Dale J.

Rob, the grounds catch bin is designed for use with the Eureka Silenzio sized grinders and may not fit your XL as the XL is taller and may not line up properly with the bin.Eureka Mignon Oro XL: 14.96 in high, 4.72 in wide, and 7.09 in deep. It weighs 15.87 lbs. Eureka Mignon Silenzio: 13.8 in high, 5 in wide, and 5.6 in deep. It weighs 12.3 lbs. Since the bin sales description specifically states it fits Mignon Silenzio, Perfetto, and Specialita there is a good chance it will be too short for the XL.
